Beltrami County Registrars office will operate Saturday January 6 from 8 a.m. to noon to help motorists buy motor vehicle registration notices ahead of the January 10 deadline. Penalties begin with $1 from January 11 to 21 then $2 from January 21 to 31 and $2.50 starting February 1. If a vehicle was unused in the first three months, no penalty applies for tags bought after April 1. Embezzler Sentenced in Park Rapids Case
Della Broolt, 38, former Deputy Clerk of City Court, Park Rapids, was convicted of embezzling 2750.57 dollars and received five years probation and a 500 dollar fine plus repayment. Man Killed on Highway 71 Near Park Rapids
Donald N. Hestra, 32, of Breckenridge, Minn., died in a single car crash on Highway 71 about 18 miles north of Park Rapids shortly after midnight. His car left the road and crashed east of the highway. he was alone. The 1973 road toll rose to six in Minnesota.
