Consumer prices climbed six tenths of one per cent in January and were 11.7 per cent higher than a year earlier. Food costs rose, while clothing autos and beef fell. Wholesale declines have not yet affected the consumer index, as inflation in 1974 is confirmed higher than earlier estimates.
Partly sunny and mild today with highs around 32 to 40 degrees. Tonight and Saturday bring a chance of light snow, with clouds, lows near 18 to 25 and highs 25 to 32. Precipitation chances sit around 40 percent tonight and 30 percent Saturday.
Three close Nixon aides John Mitchell H R Haldeman and John Ehrlichman were sentenced to at least 22 years in prison for conspiring to obstruct justice and lying under oath. Robert Mardian received 10 months to three years. All four may appeal and all stayed free on bond. Ehrlichman sought a non prison sentence citing Indian pueblos work. Judge Sirica imposed prison terms after reviewing reports.
About 60 Americans in northern Ethiopia fear Eritrean guerrillas will target them if Washington approves a $20 million plus airlift of ammunition for the Ethiopian government. U.S. State Department confirms the request is under study and evacuation may follow if the aid proceeds.

Administration economists await the next Consumer Price Index figures for proof that inflation is easing. Wholesale prices have fallen for two straight months, but the Labor Department index shows consumer prices rose 12.2 percent in 1974.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency reportedly dropped its demand for a special permit for Itasca State Park's sewage facility. Park officials say effluent will not discharge into public waters, with a plan to permanently cork the pond outlet. About 60 attended a Feb. 13 meeting in Hubbard County.
Minnesota Governor Wendell Anderson said he would not accept the 1976 Democratic vice presidential nomination and would not seek the presidential nomination. He criticized Wallace’s potential candidacy and urged energy safeguards, tax relief, and consumer representation on the Federal Reserve Board, while noting Reserve Mining’s discharges case and Minnesota’s tax policy achievements.
Area residents are reminded that daylight saving time returns Sunday. Set clocks ahead one hour before retiring Saturday night. The conversion from standard time will occur at 2 a.m. Sunday and daylight saving time will be in effect for eight months. Unless Congress intervenes, standard time six months and daylight time six months will resume in October. Some states have exempted parts of their states from the change.
