The Pioneer announces a new Question Mart to solve readers problems. It will act as a go-between to cut through red tape and seek replies from proper authorities on request.
The city paid the engineer roughly $10,000 during 1971 for engineering services. The fee is job based and includes $5,000 for signing the new municipal liquor store. Clarence Goldhamer, City Finance Officer.
The finished product is the same but production differs. Natural ice forms outdoors as temperatures drop and water freezes. Artificial ice is produced indoors using a refrigeration system to freeze water.
The Bemidji Home Start offers early childhood speech and language services for ages 3 to 5 in School District No. 31. Barb D Orazio leads parent sessions 12 to 3 PM Tuesday to Friday, with nursery and toddler rooms for younger children, two qualified teachers, six aides, and interns from BSC. Crippled Children's Services screens participants, and home visitors engage interested families.
President Nixon said the United States will not make further concessions to North Vietnam until it negotiates a joint peace proposal calling for a cease fire mutual troop withdrawal and release of prisoners. He warned critics and outlined plans for a China trip. He also addressed taxes busing India and relations with Bangladesh.
The Los Angeles Times reports author Clifford Irving and his research aide admitted to federal authorities they never met Howard Hughes, the subject of Irving's purported autobiography. The New York Times also covers developments in the case.
Two Bemidji State College music events feature a piano recital by faculty member Lawrence Campbell at 8 15 p m in Bangsberg Fine Arts Center and a Sunday 4 p m wind ensemble concert. The 49 member group tours Minnesota schools February 18 to 22 including the Minnesota Music Educators Conference in Minneapolis. Both programs are free, seating requires free tickets from the music department.
Beltrami County Court announced a new bail and fines schedule for snowmobile violations. Three violators faced penalties this morning, with fines ranging from 25 to 75 dollars and jail terms suspended if they avoid snowmobile use for the season.
Minnesota Natural Resources Commissioner Robert Herbst indicates the state will drop its appeal of a U S district court ruling granting Leech Lake Reservation Indians unlimited hunting and fishing rights. He aims for an out of court agreement and notes stay deadlines. Indians pledge no commercial fishing and may hunt or fish freely within reservation boundaries. Amelia LeGarde commends Herbst for a reversal of the stand.
