Bemidji District 31 Urges Bond Vote Today
Residents are urged to vote in today’s school bond election with polls open 4 to 8 p m. Two questions on the ballot seek 9.2 million for building expansion including two new elementaries a middle school for seventh and eighth graders and additions to Horace May and Northern elementary schools. The second asks to raise the levy by six mills about 344 000 a year for operating costs of the new buildings. Voting sites include Pleasant Valley Northern Lincoln Horace May Solway Riverside and the Senior High School.

Larson gets another life sentence in Piper kidnapping case
Donald Floyd Larson, already serving two life terms for murder, received a new life sentence for the 1972 Virginia Piper kidnapping. He and co-defendant Kenneth Callahan abducted Mrs. Piper from an Orono home, freed her near Duluth after a $1 million ransom. The district judge ordered the federal sentence consecutive, to start after Larson serves at least 17 years in state prison.

Oakland County police released a refined composite of a suspect in the slayings of four local children in Birmingham Michigan. State police Lt Robert Robertson leads the task force saying the new image improves on earlier ones. The killings began nine months ago with the discovery of 11 year old Timothy King in a ditch.
