Bemidji Council Eyes Contract for Interim Wastewater Plant Upgrade

Beltrami County and Bemidji Outline Salt Policy and Usage
County Engineer Joe Forbes describes salting on a hazardous basis for Beltrami County, using sand and salt with five percent salt content on 300 miles of paved roads. In 1973 154 tons were used, 66 tons in 1974, and about 90 tons projected for the current year. Bemidji City Manager Don Dougherty notes a similar policy limiting salt to intersections, hills and steep curves with under five percent salt. 160 tons of mix are on hand, with more likely needed due to heavy snowfall. assistant Olaf Sletten adds salt prevents sand from freezing.
