J L Bemidji asks if potatoes can be sold at the August Town and Country Days. The answer: yes licensed farm produce is welcome. Vendors should contact the Bemidji Area Chamber to reserve space and arrange street setup. Sid Swedmark, Exec. VP, notes produce is an important event item.
The Bemidji Police Department states that westbound traffic on Highway 2 has two lanes and may use either lane. It advises courteous practice to use the right lane whenever possible to allow traffic from Highway 71 South to use the inside lane.
The legal route T.H. 371 runs from Cass Lake to Little Falls as constitutional routes 19 and 2. The Bemidji to Cass Lake marking is a courtesy addition, requested years ago by Bemidji civic leaders for traveler convenience.
Authorities search for more graves after 21 victims linked to sex perversion slayings are found. Two bodies were unearthed near Lake Sam Rayburn and others in a Houston boat storage stall.

Across Minnesota, papers rely on Boise Cascade and Canadian mills. strikes and rail disruptions slow shipments, prompting tighter news holes and a few cutbacks including Crookston Times to six pages while Northwest Publications maintains about a three week stock.
Police report two more graves located near Broaddus in San Augustine County raising total victims to two teens from Pasadena. Elmer Wayne Henley 17 led investigators to graves and says more bodies may be buried near High Island. Henley admits role and says others helped lure boys to Corll for sex parties resulting in torture and death. Brooks 18 faces murder charges and will be arraigned.
Bemidji's first Town and Country Days discussed by the Retail Trade Committee. Co chairs Ron Patterson and Fran Saeger reported more than 70 requests for space and tables, signaling a strong summer event.

Town and Country Days will feature the Norths biggest open street shopping center with ceramics, belts, baked goods, jewelry, quilts, beadwork, toys, antiques, books, furniture, jams, garden produce, hot dogs and more. Patterson Saeger and the Chamber's Lid Swedmark to meet Friday to assign spaces and participants should contact merchants to arrange needed tables and space.
A two day Leech Lake Reservation Summer Youth Program seminar addressed alcohol and drug abuse and venereal disease. Speakers included Dr Stanley Cass Lake PHS Indian Hospital and Rosemond Goins along with speakers from Arrowhead Center Grand Rapids and Cass Lake Indian Hospital. About 200 teens attended as the Rev Arlo Fyock outlined the De-Toxification Center’s development and Mrs Gloria Dudley directed the event.
