Project Pride month launches Bemidji cleanup drive organized by the Chamber of Commerce with coordinated school college and community effort. The plan includes free landfill dumping by city county and National Guard trucks and free leaf bags for participants with a kickoff at Diamond Point Park and planned celebrations after each work group finishes. Citizens are urged to join the effort to improve the city for summer visitors.

The Beltrami County Planning Advisory Commission held public meetings at Pleasant Valley School and Blackduck to discuss the Lakeshore Management ordinance replacing the interim rule. Under Chair Jack Snively, Zoning Administrator Bill Parnaude called the hearings profitable as four sessions aim to include all county residents.
At a courthouse meeting the Beltrami County Board authorized advertisements for bids to add a two courtroom and hearing room annex to the County Court House. Bids due May 22, 1973 at 1 30 p m. Architects are Thomas Vecchi Inc. Final completion about 290 days after construction begins.

Federal funds totaling 326560 support three Operation Mainstream projects in Minnesota to train 113 older jobless or under employed workers. Red Lake Tribal Council receives 154190 for 41 trainees. Southeastern Minnesota Citizens Action Council gets 114330 for 30 workers plus 17810 non federal funds. Grand Rapids contract with Koochiching-Itasca Action Council extended to 1973 with 58040 for 42 workers plus 6460 local funds.
White House sources say Dr Henry A Kissinger and Hanoi's Le Duc Tho expected to meet in Paris in mid May to discuss implementing the Paris peace accords. The United States accused North Vietnam of direct violations of the January Paris agreements.
Thieves stripped a 1968 Dodge Charger owned by Lee Weinland, removing the right front fender and steering wheel while leaving a stereo, two guitars, and other items inside. They accessed the car through the trunk, used Weinland’s tools, and left the radio wire cut under Tamarac Hall. A parking ticket was also noted on the vehicle.
Government officials considered a new AIM peace proposal amid calls from third force reservation Indians to end the Wounded Knee occupation. Deputy Atty. Gen. Richard Hellstern planned a reply to AIM leaders, noting force as a possible option and to discuss roadblock tensions with Richard Wilson of the Pine Ridge Oglala Sioux Tribal Council.
