Three Cass Lake police officers face federal trial in Duluth on charges of violating the civil rights of four Cass Lake youths. The youths Sherman Brown Jr Thomas Norton James Ryan and Leonard Seelye allege arrest on October 15 1971 without just cause and physical abuse. Defendants are Chief Charles Vikre and officers Gale Ames and Arlo Vikre. Village of Cass Lake previously dropped as a defendant.

City assessor Richard Ramon was approved by the State Board of Assessors as a state accredited Minnesota assessor. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that consumer prices rose 0.2 percent in March, halting the prior month’s surge. Richard Pearson was named executive director of the Headwaters Regional Development Commission. He will start May 3 and work from the Mental Health Center, coming from the State Planning Agency in St. Paul. The commission filled three of four special interest groups and discussed the Beltrami County judicial courts annex environmental impact evaluation for EDA grants.
