City and County Planning commissions agree to form a joint panel to draft an airport zoning ordinance. The plan aims to balance property protections with growth needs and to qualify for federal and state aid. An Airport Zoning Board would enforce the ordinance, with public hearings guiding revisions.
Minnesota Senate DFL leaders plan to use newly discovered revenues to boost a school aid bill aiding core city districts and select rural districts. The proposal adds about 12 million to the governor's package, funded by extra revenue since January.
Government negotiators met again with militants at Wounded Knee South Dakota but refused to disclose topics. Officials indicated the talks related to disarming the six week occupation, with prior proposals made in Washington and plans for arrest following preliminary discussions.
In Washington the House plans a vote on President Nixon's veto of a rural water and sewer grant bill. The measure would allocate about 120 million from funds already appropriated for the fiscal year ending June 30. In Los Angeles Anthony J. Russo admits copying the Pentagon papers but says he did not read the secret Vietnam study before copying.
The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners plans to fund recreation and tourist promotion at today’s meeting. County Engineer John Kemp will seek bids on June 12 to sell equipment including an eight ton Oshkosh truck with V plow and wing, a 10 ton tilt trailer, a John Deere loader, two ton Ford truck, conveyor and screen, Rev truck, shouldering machine, a 48 passenger bus, and other items. The board will consider a land purchase offer from Minnesota for a parcel on Trunk Highway 71 in Blackduck and a related county garage site.

President Nixon formally asked Congress to grant wide authority to raise or cut tariff barriers and to retaliate against unfair practices, including banning some imports. He urged MFN treatment for the Soviet Union and a five year mandate, aiming to speed trade negotiations with Europe, Japan and others.
Bemidji Police Civil Service Commission delayed a decision on whether to hold a state wide or local exam for a new police chief. The panel heard opposition to an outside examination from police personnel and several council members, with no final action until next Monday.
