Miss Alice Powell aged 19 was fined $5 and costs by Judge J G Winfrey after appearing in a directorie gown on Main Street and other streets Sunday night. She admitted the stunt saying friends urged her to prove she was not afraid. Dozens of men and boys followed as she walked the streets in the gown.
Treasury supervising architect bids Bedford Stone and Construction Co. $45,910 the lowest of seven, likely securing the Bedford post office contract. The town previously fought for a stone building quarried nearby after early bids for brick. Local officials and Congressman Chaney pushed for extra appropriations to support stone construction.
State Chairman Jackson and District Chairman Padgett participate as local Democrats quarrel over Lawrence County delegation. The faction opposes Underwood and threatens to push him from county chair or prosecutor nomination, while Underwood pledges to refuse both.

William T. Reynolds aged 75 a prominent farmer eight miles east of Bedford was riding in a buggy when it uncoupled three miles from the city. He was drawn over the dashboard sustaining a broken nose cuts to his head and hand and left badly shaken. Dr F E Stirp attended to his injuries.

Solon Bartlett a well known Lawrence County school teacher suffered a fractured collar bone in a Friday baseball game at Mitchell. While attending the County Institute the incident occurred during a steal attempt when Bartlett collided with a teammate and was forced from the field for repairs. He will be unable for duty for some time.
A two week old colt belonging to Eph Hughes fell into a cistern behind their East 6th street home and drowned. The colt had been offered 50 dollars, far below its value, and was lost while Mr. and Mrs. Hughes were away. The top was likely displaced by the colt or its mother, allowing the accident. Clerk Wallace granted a license to wed to William C. Payne and Etta A. Pope of Elnora. Payne, a schoolteacher, and Pope, daughter of farmer Ransom Pope, will wed at the bride’s home next Tuesday and reside in Elnora. Pope is niece of J. R. Pope and Mrs. James M. Myers and has visited Washington.
In a Friday session the Democratic Central Committee reached a truce with anti temperance factions by replacing J A Gunn with Charles P Butler as Vice Chairman. Saloon forces protested Gunn for backing remonstrance in Third Ward and campaigned against him and Radford. Butler was chosen as a compromise to ease turmoil and oppose County Chairman Underwood.
Dick Fisher, a well known old soldier and pensioner, was overcome by heat and exhaustion on the East Side of the public square Saturday. He was carried to the court park where physicians administered restoratives.
Frank Martin nearly died after being overcome by fire damp while working in a Kurtz well for Wm Armbruster. He fell unconscious and was retrieved by companions. Dr. Sims arrived just in time to save him, and it is said life would have ended if he had remained longer.
Samuel C. Hill loses a three year old Shet land pony that wandered into a 200 gallon iron kettle used as a watering trough at Braxton farm west of town. The pony, raised by Hill, was a family pet and part of a fine team with its dam.
George A. Buskirk sells his horse Baron Winters to Matt Wilson, a driver for Mike Rairden, for about 1500 dollars. Wilson is believed to have arranged the sale for Rairden, as Buskirk travels to Indianapolis to finalize the deal and plans to bring Posey Durbin home from the Rairden stables.
