An advertisement extols Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery and Little Liver Pills as remedies for digestive and nervous issues. It notes Golden Seal and other roots restore stomach tone, liver activity, and nerve steadiness, while Liver Pills are advertised as pure vegetable relief without griping.
Auerbach home hosted a successful St Johns Guild benefit with a high quality program. Beatrice Sanders and C Auerbach opened with a piano violin duet followed by Mrs Frank Hatfield and Esther Mayer vocal solos and Florence Avery piano pieces. Seven course refreshments were served at seven tables.
The State against Shubil L. Burton from Mitchell, charged with holding up Elwood Bridgewaters and taking 35 dollars July 25, was continued due to witness absence. Bridgewaters, a French Lick man, wagered 85 dollars, Burton allegedly forced him to disgorge it by threats. The case raises questions of ownership of poker winnings and whether one can steal money won in a game.
The steam pipe burst in the fire room of the U S Cement Co plant at 10 a m Friday injuring fireman T G Davis badly with scalds to about a third of his body. He was taken home and treated by Dr John R Pearson. Davis is married. No other workers were hurt though one stood nearby.
Emma the Bedford mare owned by local horsemen won a Thursday pace at Hamilton Ohio. Buckley of New Albany drove the winner in heats 2 18, 2 153, and 2 143 with beat 5 in first, 2 in second, 2 in third. Sutherlin case heads to Supreme Court in Indianapolis with A G Sutherlin defense and Floyd Circuit Court appeal.
The jury awarded $2,000 to the plaintiff in the case against the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad after the death of a ten year old boy struck at a street crossing in Loogootee last March. Attorneys McCormick Gilkeson F A Seal and Brooks & Brooks represented the plaintiff with R N Palmer and Judge Gardiner of Washington for the defendant.
Gerald Stipp, a farmer, was instantly killed Saturday night as Monon passenger No 6 neared St Joe south of Borden. Engineer Vaughn said Stipp, hearing impaired, stepped onto the crossing from the opposite direction and was struck as the train could notstop in time. The body was taken to Borden and the train delayed about an hour.
O. K. Bryant, a carnival balloon owner and aeronaut, was severely injured when his balloon caught fire and burned during a Friday ascent above Loogootee. He abandoned the craft, his parachute damaged by the blaze, and fell hard, suffering internal injuries with uncertain recovery. Bryant, 22, lives in Louisville. Miss Beddoe of Bedford has been hired to teach art in local public schools two days weekly.
Dealers forecast higher onion prices as the 1905 crop is harvested and stored. They say the current crop is smaller than last year, with the shortage amount to be known after cleaning up next winter. Excessive early summer rains caused weed pressure and stunted growth.
A 1818 Hindostan area incident recounts Mrs. Smith, her husband, and an infant fending off three wolves that entered their cabin while the husband danced at Hindostan. The scene ends with a sudden blaze from the fireplace, driving the wolves away and leaving the family unharmed.
A massive stone train rolled out of the county at 6 pm, one of the longest and heaviest ever sent from the area. Forty four cars pulled by three engines labored to crest the big hill north of the city, as Bloomington World reported.
Henry Weir, an Oolitic merchant, escaped serious harm when a fruit and vegetable wagon toppled off a bluff on the hill into Oolitic. A tug broke and a shaft slipped freeing the horse, but Weir leaped free just as the wagon inverted. The load and wagon were later recovered with no serious damage.
Alonzo Mead and Lee Kinsey, once friends, argued over a shell drop on Mead's hat at a saloon. Kinsey allegedly stabbed Mead, then fired five times, killing him. Kinsey surrendered after trailing to Lost River and Paoli. Kinsey, a 35 year old Kentuckian, faced possible self defense claims.
Black files grand larceny charge against Gilbert known as Waxie Gilbert for allegedly taking Black's parrot. Gilbert says he found the bird in the B and O yards and returned it when possible. parrot escaped Seymour. Gilbert and attorney arrange Mitchell trial about one week from Tuesday. Also notes on Edward L. Davis’s career move and turkey supply outlook for Thanksgiving.
Dr Fletcher Gardner, on three months leave as contract surgeon in the U S army, will depart Bloomington Oct 11 for Fort Crook Nebraska to report for duty Oct 18. He has been in the Philippines and Bloomington for four months and won a one month extension beyond the original leave.
A Sunday noon street game on South K Street between rival youth squads ended when 13 year old Frank Henderson fell and broke his right arm in the scramble for the ball. He is the son of Nelson Henderson, a cabman, and the injury serves as a warning to other players.
A Sunday evening praise service at the Presbyterian church presented a structured program with organ preludes and postludes by Buck, multiple anthems including Te Deum and O Gladsome Light, solos by Mrs. Finley Mascagni and Mrs. McCormick, a duet by Miss Whiting and Mrs. Graves, and a benediction with a Triumph March postlude.

A large barn on Ambrose K Sears farm west of town burned Thursday about 430 pm. Hay corn apples potatoes a binder mower and some stock were lost but stock was saved. Loss exceeds 1200 with 500 insurance. Frank Kindred resides on the farm. Origin of fire unknown.
In Dillsboro Indiana on October 5 Mrs Josephine Schmidt recovered 15 damages from Josephine Lambert after her dog was killed. The Circuit Court upheld a judgment for Lambert and policy showed a dog is property and its owner may recover full damages.
Frank Brooking wed Miss Katie Batman at her parents home with Rev. J. W. Denney officiating. A dinner followed as relatives attended. Everett Trogden and Miss Xowna Ingalls married at 1314 Tenth Street in a ceremony by Elder Murphy with Foster family witnesses.
Fourteen men were buried in a cave in at the Vermont Slate Company quarry near Granville, New York. J. B. Williams, president of the company, was among the four killed. Foreman Warren Queen and David Cadwallader were rescued. Queen is said to be near death. Local residents assisted in the rescue as hundreds of tons of waste material collapsed.
Mrs Jane Johnson a well known Mitchell resident died Sunday after a short illness at her Mitchell home. She was 92 and the oldest sister of Uncle Tom Dodd deceased. Funeral was held Monday morning from the Mitchell Methodist church. Mr and Mrs A F Barnhart recently moved to Bedford from Mitchell where he worked with U S Cement. Barnhart was honored Saturday by coworkers with a gold watch and chain. Mrs Barnhart was active in the Matinee Musicale club. Wade Mason of Mitchell visited Chas Mason in the city Sunday.
At 11 30 a m Monday the home of Oolitic Town Clerk and Treasurer Nat V Stultz was found afire as the family had been away at Needmore since early morning. The house of four rooms burned with only a small portion of contents saved. Loss about 500 with contents valued around 250. The blaze started outside the building near the Belt railroad track and is blamed on a spark from a locomotive.
Monon line near West Baden suffers half hour delay after Engine 103 breaks an eccentric rod at coal chutes. A switch engine arrives, pulls the train to the Springs, and the crippled engine is moved to a station siding for repairs.

A Washington project for a splendid new United States Senators office building may be built with Indiana limestone. Bid opening showed five limestone bidders and the limestone low bid was over 300000 dollars below the lowest marble or granite bids.
Ollie Draper, a city horse trader, gathered six horses and sold them in Bloomington then Washington Indiana where they reportedly died from disease. A reported 5000 pearl found in the Wabash river, bought by a Cleveland buyer, is dismissed by a local jeweler as highly unlikely to fetch such a price and seen as publicity.
