Voice from the South on McKinley Bryan choice

John S. Williams of Richmond argues Americans should support McKinley over Bryan. He charges Bryan with change, discord, and envy, while praising McKinley as stable and prudent. He criticizes Bryan on silver, sovereignty, and foreign policy, urging Lincoln era precedent.

Bryan's Silver Basis Fears In A Possible Administration

A critical analysis warns that if Bryan is elected the Treasury could be put on a silver basis without new laws. Such a shift would disturb finances, trade, and industry, impair public credit, and hinder bond sales needed to restore the gold reserve. It could trim revenue, cripple the treasury, and delay redeeming notes in silver or gold, with gold maintaining commercial prominence in a discounting silver regime.
