Van Camp Packing Co official says the overall alarm is not present and the canner's pea crop has suffered the most damage with plants only half to two inches above ground after the cold spell.

Thomas N Braxtan died Thursday at 11 am in Paoli in his 84th year. Funeral Saturday at 2 pm in Paoli. Survived by widow sister of Samuel W Vance of New Albany and seven children. He built wealth in merchandising farming and stock dealing and held county offices. He opposed the Knights of the Golden Circle during the Civil War and helped capture its leaders. Also notes death of Dr Ziba H Foote at Farmersburg aged 83, former Bedford physician born 1824, buried in Farmersburg. three children Oscar Winthrop Flora.
Orville Newlin of New Albany and Grace King of this city married Monday in Mayor Fillion’s office. The couple will reside in New Albany. Also, William H. Brooking and Anna R. Corps quietly married Saturday at about 3 p.m., ceremony by Rev. E Richard Edwards in the manse.
Charles Roach of West 12th Street had the forefinger of his right hand mashed off this Saturday while handling heavy stone at his home.
A thunderstorm at 8:30 Thursday night saw a lightning bolt hit Mrs. Mattie Vance’s East 15th Street home. The chimney and a smokestack were damaged, shingles loosened, and a pay wire sparked along the roof but no one inside the house suffered a direct shock. The Vances and Mr. and Mrs. Diehl Richardson occupy parts of the residence.
Mayor Robert Russell City Clerk Charles Willey and Councilman Albion Horrall rode a car riage when a Fire Department horse hitched to it bolted toward the river after hearing a locomotive bell. The carriage was demolished and the dignitaries were thrown clear. Russell suffered minor scratches while Willey and Horrall escaped injury.
In the $10,000 damage suit Spires versus the town of Olitic at Bloomington, Judge Wilson instructed the jury to verdict for the defendant. Evidence showed the corporation bore no liability for Spires injuries and if any fault existed it lay with the contractor who left a stone crusher in the street. The case may be refiled at Bedford against the contractor.
Indiana Railroad Commission advances two new laws requiring inspectors for car equipment track and rolling stock and a mandatory accident report. It plans a business reception for about fifteen inspector applicants and informs railroads to use interstate forms until Indiana forms arrive. The first report is due within five days. the second within twenty days, detailing accident causes, personnel involved, damages, and transportation specifics.

C W Walter manager of the Bedford Stone Railroad Company appeared before the State Tax Board seeking a lower assessment for the three mile line from Rivervale to the Perry Matthews Buskirk Stone Company mill. He argued the road's value should drop from 50000 to 5900 per mile citing earnings and construction costs, noting 1906 net income of 25634.18 and a 10 percent dividend on a 250000 investment. He will supply additional details for a final decision.
Night fire attempts on a Southern Railway bridge near Temple Indiana were thwarted after the town marshal, English Indiana, found burning waste and extinguished it. He was later shot twice by two men believed to be the culprits amid two separate blazes as three freight trains passed.

Many Bedford members reside in Bloomington and a large attendance from Bedford and other commanderies is expected in full Templar uniform.
James Raglan of Mitchell pleaded guilty in Mayor Fillion's Court to one charge of keeping cigarettes in his possession contrary to law. Other cases against him were dismissed. The fine with costs totaled 81 dollars, paid, with the lowest possible fine of 25 dollars. Other Mitchell men' s cigarette law cases are set for trial before the mayor in May.
