City Marshal Jails Cock After Midnight Street Fight

Monday night a fight between Mace Hitchcock and Homer Dillman on the street led to City Marshal Russell arresting Hitch cock after he was initially freed. Police failed to arrest him until Russell woke and took him to jail, while Dillman remained at large. A separate Evansville Ind bee issue reports 75 hive owners in the city producing $10 000 in honey yearly and seeks Sept 1 removal outside city limits. The town discusses an ordinance to declare bees a nuisance.

Bowen versus Consalus Case Dismissed in City Court

In Judge Stephen son s court the Bowen versus Consalus case was dismissed on Monday over a lawyer fee dispute settled satisfactorily. Belle Smith was arrested for digging potatoes and picking beans in Andy Acton s garden without permission and had her trial set for Tuesday at 2 o clock before Judge Stephenson.

Chicago One Cent Per Mile for National Encampment

The Monon offers a one cent per mile rate for Chicago round trip due to the 34th National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic. Bedford riders pay 4.95. Obituary for Peter Russell of Springville Indiana

Dr Ed at his home in Springville Indiana July 14 1900 Peter Russell aged 54 years. He served in the Union Army in 1865 and was discharged the same year. He married Caroline Perry a widow whose husband was killed by guerrillas. They moved to Springville in 1866 and remained there. He left no children and was a Baptist. Funeral attendance reflected his many friends. He faced death uncomplainingly and with soldierly resolve.
