It also prescribes reporting duties for physicians midwives coroners and county clerks and outlines penalties for failures including fines and burial permit requirements. The measure also fixes salaries for health officers and assigns local appointments and class allocations for city boards.
The Bedford city council met Tuesday with John R. Stipp named mayor pro tem in Mayor Fillion's absence. A $500 offer for two Fire Department grey horses was rejected. A sidewalk project on 10th Street was referred to the city engineer. Fred Cannedy’s Fire Department membership application was acted on. East 16th Street improvement assessed and damages paid to property owners. Post Office Department suggests extending city limits for free delivery. Water-rate discussion ongoing. Building permits issued for two homes. The second term of school opens January 21 for children turning six by March first. Attendance last week: enrolled 1893, present 1588, average 1527, 95.5% attendance, tardies 28. prior year figures: enrolled 1771, present 1526, average 1449, 94.1%, tardies 65.
Sheriff T W Box escorted Alva Callahan to Paoli where his case for the killing of John R Walters will be set for trial in the Orange Circuit Court. Judge Martin, acting as attorney, expects a February 4 or adjourned term start. Also noted is a bill to protect bald and golden eagles from capture or destruction in Indiana.
The 1907 teachers examination locations will alternate with Mitchell hosting January March May and July exams while Bedford hosts February April June and August. Examinations occur on the last Saturday of each month. Ralph N. Tirey, Co Supt.
