Mitchell Flour Mill Destroyed In Major Fire
The second large Mitchell flour mill burned to the ground late Wednesday afternoon. Owned by H. C. Graves the loss was about 10000 with 6900 covered by insurance. Grain including twenty five tons of bran and 1400 bushels of corn were destroyed. Fire originated in the engine room and firefighters, aided by citizens using a new chemical apparatus, could not stop the blaze. The flames threatened nearby property and the basement mill was discovered by two women residents who alerted Graves. The fire smoldered through the night as Mitchell residents mourned the loss and Graves received public sympathy.

Walter Ferguson of 960 South West Street Indianapolis and two companions risked their lives to save Mrs. Dan Miller and her daughter near Nashville Brown County. Ferguson swerved his speeding auto to avoid the pair as Kelley Hill’s steep descent loomed. The car plunged down an embankment. Ferguson and passengers escaped with minor injuries while Mrs Miller and her daughter faced severe injuries after being thrown from a frightened horse.
