Eastern Star Meeting Guests In First Post Vacation Session

STAM Eastern Star meets Highland Chapter No. 523 in regular session. Guest Mrs. Mae Blackford of Shelby Mont attended. A musical program directed by Mrs. Nellie Miller and Mrs. Lola Reid followed. Ice cream and cupcakes were shared afterward. Rev Clarence M Eppard of Clarinda gave the Community Half Sunday address on Dollar Democracies Dictatorship Why Fight He Who Taketh the Sword Shall Thereby Perish.

Betty Blythe Shields hosted her Sunday school class The Offering Buds at her home after Sunday school. Jeffry Furlong of St. Louis brought a five pound candy box for the children and Betty provided candy and balloons. Guests from Hepburn joined a basket dinner and spent the day with the Joe Bird family including several local couples and families.

Sheridan Couple Wed in Troy Kansas Wedding

Miss Beatrice Robison daughter of Mrs Pearl Robison of St Joseph and Virgil Winemiller son of Mr and Mrs Jake Winemiller of Sheridan were married at Troy Kansas Sunday evening September 3 Rev P H Elliott of Leavenworth read the ceremony. Miss Lillie Robison and Charles Beadwall were attendants. Both couples were reared in Sheridan. They will reside in St Joseph.

Methodist Ladies Aid Society elects officers at meeting

At the September 6 gathering at Mrs. Luther Cook’s home, officers were elected for the coming year with Mrs. Cook as president and Mrs. H F Holland as vice president. Twenty four members and two children attended the event with assistant hostesses named. Fruit salad cake and iced tea were served.

Candid camera provokes bee attack at Corydon church

Corydon, Saturday at 5:40 p.m., a bee swarm under the eastern eave of the Methodist church stung Willard Robbins while he attempted a candid photo of two men removing the honey. Robbins suffered facial swelling and a swollen nose as the blacked out area grew by Sunday morning. The bees, long residents, apparently took exception to the photographer.
