General Mills Homemaker Contest Opens for BCHS Seniors

BCHS invites all senior girls to enter the General Mills ninth annual American Homemaker of Tomorrow contest. Test enrollment closes Oct 31 with a 50 minute knowledge exam on Dec 4. Top local winner earns a Betty Crocker pin and state consideration, plus a chance at a $1,500 college scholarship and an All-American opportunity. Second place earns $500.

School Nurse Reports Health Check for Young Students

Bedford school nurse Mrs. Helen OGrady says kindergarten and first grade pupils will soon have eyes and ears checked after weighings recorded last week. She notes the children appear in fine health.

County officers to meet in Cres ton for training today

Representatives from nine counties convene in Cres ton at 3 p m to train county officers and chairs of National and county educational associations. Bedford Community schools add three buses to fleet

The district purchases three new buses Nos. 1 and 4 at the end of the school year. About 800 students are transported by district buses this year. New drivers Wetzel Campain Fickess Baker and Kettle join the staff alongside existing operators across blocks and gravity routes.

ACT Tests Announced for Creston and Red Oak Seniors

Seniors planning to take ACT exams must register and return forms to Principal J. Frank Nugent by Oct. 12. Materials are available in homerooms. The tests will be held on Nov. 10 at Creston and Red Oak with exact locations to be announced later.

New Books Added to BC HS Library Amid Growth

BC High School Library adds 21 new titles led by A Nation of Sheep PT 109 and The Ugly American. Fiction and nonfiction volumes include Time to Stand Ship Afire Our Names Stranger at Killknock Ride Proud Rebel and more. About 35 additional volumes expected soon per Librarian Ruth Putnam.

Teachers Meet October First Holiday For Students

Teachers will hold an all day meeting at Bedford Community High School from 8:30 to 3:30 while students take the first holiday of the year. The session centers on improved teaching with each junior high and high school teacher submitting three work related questions for discussion. A Joe Whitaker, county superintendent, is preparing the program.

BCHS Introduces Biochemistry and Electronics Courses

BCHS will offer biochemistry this fall and electronics this spring. Dwayne Ayer explains biochemistry blends chemistry with biology for regular biology classes, with lecture and lab segments. Gary King will teach electronics contingent on new equipment, aiding three elementary schools with portable lab tables and furnishings.

Former President Reappears as School Photographer in Bedford

In Bedford last week a man posing as John Quincy Adams entered Supt. Gerald C. Bryans office and announced he would take school pictures on October 8. The visitor, though resembling the historic figure, was said to be a living impersonator.

Stella Palmer of Phoenix and her Andrew Palmer family were dinner guests Wednesday of Mr and Mrs Floyd Morehouse. The Legion Auxiliary met Monday afternoon. Leroy Johnson and family visited Donald Tribolet and family in Bedford Saturday.
