Conway Homemakers club gathers with entertainment

Fifteen members and a guest, Mrs. Roy Bailey, attended the Conway Homemakers club meeting. Edith Gardner and Marjorie Barry led the afternoon entertainment and several members received birthday surprises from mystery pals. Weekend visits and relatives were noted among residents.

Minnie Ilison Hopkins Rites Held for 81 in Hopkins

Mrs Minnie Ilison died Friday November 10 after long illness. Born near Chicago she lived most of her life in Hopkins area. Funeral at Baptist church conducted by Pastor Norman J Lewis. Survived by son John Allison Wheatland Wyoming, daughters Mrs James Tay Adar Bedford and Mrs Ulmer Margaret Hopkins, and two brothers Leonard Whit.

The J. T. club gathered Wednesday evening at Mrs. Frank Elliot’s home with members present. Roll call covered recipes household shortcuts and sewing aids. Mrs Libetts reported on the open lesson Floral Arrangements and Mrs Rex Hatfield arranged several bouquets. Mrs Henry Krejel presented a United Nations Day and flag report.

Word arrived of Mrs. Toka Oxley Hanks death September 27 in Eugene Oregon and the accidental death of her daughter Mrs. Miller in Oregon on November 4. Mrs. Hanks was a former Siam resident.

Soil conservation districts provide farm surveys and value

Local Soil Conservation districts offer detailed soil surveys for many farms in the county. The Taylor district has completed surveys on every farm and these records aid tax valuations and farm planning. Surveys are on air photos, done by trained technicians, and provided free to landowners.

Conservation surveys guide farm planning by land capability

The Sail Conservation Service offers free help to create a complete conservation plan based on land capability and to conduct surveys for farmers lacking a survey. Neighbors can coordinate surveys to save time, and the service is available to all county landowners.

Council Meeting Adopts Bills on Read and Adjourns

Councilman Paul Bartlett moved that all bills be read and passed. The motion carried. The meeting adjourned by motion with a vote to reconvene on the mayor's call. Lester Round served as mayor and Pearl Parker as city clerk.

The Young Married group held a square dance at the New Hra in Gravity on November 16. Mr and Mrs Donald Haynie and Mr and Mrs Robert Mwlen served on the planning committee. It is one in a series of regularly scheduled Taylor County gatherings.

Calvary Go-Getters Plan Christmas Party at Howard Wurster’s

Calvary Go-Getters met Nov. 6 at Robert Lockhart’s home with nineteen members and two new members present. The next meeting will host a Christmas party at Howard Wurster’s home on Dec. 11, with each member bringing a gift for a grab bag.

Victory 4 H Club met November 6 at the Farm Bureau office with eighteen members three mothers and two guests present. A Christmas party was planned and committees were appointed Agatha Reed gave a talk on sewing boxes and a talk on equipment in a sewing box was given.

Washington Farmers Meet and Basketball Practice

Washington Farmers met with Renaie White on November 6 with ten boys and the leader present. An additional new member was added to the roll. The group later went to Gravity gymnasium for basketball practice.

4-H Leaders Training School Planned for December

The first girls 4-H leaders training school will meet Tuesday December 12. Elsie Williams from Iowa State College in Ames will lead, focusing on clothing selection, color harmony and materials. Clothing construction lessons start after January.
