Armistice Day events in New Market featured a street parade led by the American Legion the Logie Ancillary and local school floats. Prizes were awarded to the senior class and sophomores with a post parade program and a free movie showing.
The Ladies' Aid society of the Christian church met at the church building for a community gathering. Members discussed upcoming charity projects and planned a bake sale to benefit local families in need.
Hawleyville Ladies Aid met at Mrs. Francis Reece home with Mrs. Wendell McCann assisting. Plans for the new church year were made. A social followed in the church basement with games and pie. White elephant gifts were auctioned to boost the treasury. Local residents attended external events and new home radios were installed by several families. One member, Clifford Burwell, remained ill after an appendectomy.
Harold Chamberlin returns home after months at Marshalltown. Mrs. J W Fickess improving after illness. Many residents and visitors noted, including Turus Monahan from Idaho and Des Moines visitors at Gravity homes. Local travel includes Chandler family wintering in Los Angeles and others visiting Lenox and Des Moines. Community members move residences, attend meetings, and visit relatives.
Mrs. Mamie Overlease, suffering heart trouble, was transported to Bedford by F. L. Wetmore and her father Green Moore for examination by specialists at the clinic.
Quarterly meeting services will be held at the Free Methodist church in Gravity November 15 to 17. District elder Rev. E Ballenger of Boone Iowa will lead with services Friday and Saturday at 7 30 p m Sabbath Love Feast at 10 15 a m preaching at 11 a m and Sabbath evening at 7 30 p m Rev W D Groesbeck is pastor and invites all to attend
The Royal Neighbors met at Mrs. Etta Parks home and the D. O. C. club convened with Mrs. Tom Utter west. About twenty ladies gathered with Mrs. Olive Nickell for an all day quilting session to work on the Rebekah quilt. The boys and girls Sunday school classes met in the Christian church basement, and the Missionary meeting of the Christian church was led by Kate Adams.
Sunday visits span Hopkins and Villisca with the Proctors spending time at the Wray home and Mae Beery with her daughter Fleeta and Anna at the Eberly residence. Bedford shoppers and Clarinda excursions are also noted among local families.
Mrs. Howard Spencer visited the school Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Cumberlin spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Mendenhall.
A group of neighbors and friends gathered at the home of Mrs. William Eggers Friday evening to celebrate her birthday anniversary. The event also marked Clarence Sleep's birthday anniversary, with Sleep noted as a farmer of the region.
Mr and Mrs G C Manley and son Wilbur visited the J F Sleep home last Thursday evening with Mr and Mrs Elza Fine and Mr and Mrs Frank Sleep and Ralph Sleep. Refreshments were served.
Taylor County Iowa board met with all supervisors present and approved numerous claims and expenses. Items include gas and oil for county airship, books, jail repairs, water, mileage, and official trip costs. Names include H E Taylor, T L Bridges, A J Bridges, Frank Connor, Otto Hayes, J H Daugherty, C E Gaines, R D Goforth, and many others.
