Conway notes describe a birthday party at Mrs. Frank Humphrey home for October celebrants with gifts from the birthday box and refreshments. A birthday anniversary for Mrs. C N Burch is marked with oysters dinner. locals and visitors from Bedford, Hopkins, Leon, and Des Moines area attend various events and visits.
Note mentions new gym seating with old bleachers recycled. Lenox girls played a practice game with Conway girls on Halloween night. Students and staff attendance details include visits to school by Margaret Donna Carruthers and Phyllis Nixon, and absences by Wayne Duncan Hal Robinson Dale Matheny. Officials attended the Des Moines teachers' convention. the orchestra performed at election night entertainment.
Absent students last week included Kathryn Hunter Homer James Hewitt and Roger McKay. Robert Rosebrough was hit in the mouth by a rock injuring his face and teeth but returned to school next day. Eighth grade spelling perfect scores were earned by Robert Rosebrough Lyle Fine Elmer Freymyer Ralph McMullen Genevieve Stafford Betty Beemer Helen Straight Kathryn Hunter and Homer James Hewitt.
The eighth grade all achieved 100 percent in spelling with several seventh grade top scorers named including Joyce Beemer Maxine Clayton Alice Hawn Ruth Hogue Catherine Marshall Shirley McKay Jeanette Norton Lois Whalen Bob Winner Kenneth Wintermute Bertha Woodruff and Velma Younkin.

Opal Lincoln Arlene Pullen Clyde Huddle Ona Hogue Ruth Lincoln Kathleen Wintermute Doyle Robinson and Emma Mc McMullen all had perfect scores last week. Mrs Orval Brown visited the room on Thursday.
The school reports a grade declamatory contest to train speech habits for fourth to eighth graders. About thirty students will compete in the preliminary contest on Friday evening November 16, with the final contest on Wednesday evening November 21. The event will feature orchestra music and glee club performances, and community attendance is encouraged.
Hopkins man E. E. Fike 62 died at his home after a long illness. Funeral services were held at Swanson Funeral Home and he was buried in Hopkins cemetery. He lived in the area his entire life and worked in groceries real estate and as a mail clerk. He is survived by his wife a son Merlin and a daughter Mary Florence.

Numerous Halloween parties were held across the school last week. The basketball team lost 22 to 20 to Barnard in the Nodaway county outdoor tournament first round at Maryville. The juniors are preparing a two night play this month with an entirely different cast each night.

The Stitch and Chatter club gathered at Mrs. Roy Weaver’s home for quilting. Present were nineteen members including Mrs. Cavin Lyons Cordell Rusco Reed Bownes Weese Rusco Carroll Woods and Kenery with visitors Mrs. John Adams of Blockton and Mrs. Flora Godsey. The next meeting is set for Mrs. Joe Rusco’s home. A. F. Bownes and Cleo Bownes traveled to St. Joseph for a business trip Sunday.
A Hawleyville shower honored Mrs Harold Minard with lunch served by Mrs Mary Minard. The H I C club at Mrs Lewis Baker's home elected Esther Ankeny president Marie Wilcox secretary and Myrtle Baker treasurer. Several residents shared visits and travel as townsfolk noted local happenings.
A Sunday gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Parker included Clarence Sleep and wife Harley Sleep with Guy and Margaret from Bedford, Dale Lasley and Dela Marie, James Farrell with Gene and Helen, Joe Parker and Joe Dean with Dorothy from Sheridan, S. N. Parker, Mrs. Fred Woods and Billie Dean, Homer Parker, and Tom Parker and his son Bill of Athelstan.
The Cudahy Produce company opened a new produce house in the building recently vacated by F. O. Wilson hardware. Ted Round is the manager. Several local families and relatives visited and traveled between towns on Sunday and Monday, with visits to Howe Indiana, Clarinda, Blockton, Yorktown, Maryville, Emerson, and St. Joseph noted among residents and thanks given.
High Prairie residents and guests share a weekend of visits and travel. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Yearous spent the week end at the Glade Farrell home near Gravity. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Borden and son Marvin visited the Larry Whitehead home on Sunday. Bonnie Ingram of Clarinda stayed with grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ingram. The Savages, Paul and family, were in New Market visiting Ren Snively and his brother Ben Savage before moving to Salmon, Idaho. Mrs. Mary Lowery visited last week with sister Mrs. R. F. Thompson. Ralph Borden and family visited Homer Borden, Hugh Ingram, and Lena Ingram, then Bonnie. Bonnie also spent Sunday at the Dale Ingram home in Dallas district. Edgar Harris and family attended the funeral of his aunt, Mrs. R. I. Blackledge, in New Market.
