Mr and Mrs W B Richardson celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Monday October 23 with an open house and a relatives arranged program. Neighbors later surprised the couple with a charivari and visit in the evening.
Marie Kingery of Brooks and Leonard C. Perdew of Gravity wed Saturday afternoon in Shenandoah. The ceremony was conducted by radio pastor James Pearson as the ring ceremony was read. The couple, raised in Taylor county, plan to live on a county farm, accompanied by Mr and Mrs Clyde Spring and Mr and Mrs Howard Perrew.
The Woman's Study Club met at Mrs. S. B. Smith's home with drama and social committees in charge. Various societies held meetings at homes or schools, with families hosting programs and refreshments. Birthday surprises, dinners, showers, and bridge gatherings accompanied by lists of attendees and hosts marked a lively community scene.
The Semper Fidelus Club met with Mrs. Fred Thomas Friday afternoon. Prize winners included Mrs. Olive Nickell Mrs. Ralph Davis and Mrs. Eva Coy. Mrs. Bill Reed hosted two tables of Bridge Tuesday with guests Trisinger Reed of Oklahoma. SUU Bridge Club entertained at Lyle Posten home in Corning Saturday evening with Vale Thomson Claud Moore winning high score and Horace Beemer Lester Posten low. Royal Neighbors and families held a Halloween dinner at Mr and Mrs Albert Levi home Tuesday with Bingo and Chinese Checkers.
The Gravity school was invited to the Passion Play at Lenox on Thursday. About thirty five attended the performance from here. The cast in the all school play has been working very hard this last week.
Grade three to five pupils achieved perfect spelling marks last week including Beverly Morley Bonnie Humphrey Duane Bradley Lois Parks Florine Dougherty Don Wade Joslyn Bobby Levi and Annabel Stephens. Visitors to the room include Mrs John Stephens Mrs Fred Joslyn Mrs Guy Joslyn and Mrs Opal Pitman and sons.
The following pupils earned perfect scores in the spelling test on Friday: Dee Dee McMahill Francis Gad dis Bobbie Martin Lloyd Akers Earlus McMahill Robert Cross ley Joanne Ledgerwood Hazel Biggerstaff Charles Alexander Genese Crowe Francis Fick ess.
Mr and Mrs A D Scott returned from Champaign Illinois where they visited daughter Mrs Opie Scott Wiseheart and family. Hopkins Missouri aid society members listed. Creston visitors included Agnes Walker Meredith and Richard. Des Moines guests visited Ora Cree family. Dallas township hosts Max Shipley and others. Bedf ord excursions noted with Corning visitors.
Miss Madeline Smith visits Omaha relatives as Edmond Morley of Vancouver prepares for a Jimmie Greer Orchestra engagement in Los Angeles. Dozens of families circulate through Sterling, Denver, Des Moines, and other towns, with medical and church events noted and relatives gathering for weddings and anniversaries.
Miss Katherine Schenck, former forum staffer and host at the Commonwealth hotel, lauds Kansas City visitants from 4-H clubs. She notes 600 youths plus teachers and agents, praising their conduct, absence of drinking, noise, smoking, and damage, with cleanup duties for wrappers and shells.

Miss Maurine Lepley of Maloy and Daryl Wagoner of Adel Iowa married Oct 21 at the bride’s parents home in Adair officiated by Rev W H Warrior. The couple, both teachers, will continue in their positions after a short wedding trip.
The Clearfield Woman’s Relief Corps held its annual inspection on Friday October 27 led by Mrs. Jennie Lindsay with Frances Kleckner and Mildred Sage decorating. The event featured a dinner, a welcome by president Lena Huffman, and ritual work led by Mrs. Lindsay. Other items include R N A Halloween supper, various visits by local residents, church society meetings, and college trips by area students.
Mrs. Minnie Cochran of Des Moines spent time with her sister Mrs. Jesse McKelvey last week and will travel to Idaho to visit relatives before returning home.
Athelstan and neighboring towns host family visits and travel as residents and relatives gather. Dinners, church services, and hospital trips are noted with names including Freemyer, Rusco, and Brumfield, while others travel to Bedford Conway Maryville and Grant City.
W. C. Markee and his son from Plymouth Illinois left for home after visiting Mrs Grace Balch. Mr. and Mrs. M A Jenkins visited her parents Mr and Mrs G B Black and Ermil Black and family at Sheridan Sunday evening.
Guss Miss Ossie Steadman and pupils presented a program at Nodaway center school Friday evening. The Helping Hand club and families held a Halloween party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gray, each member bringing a gift for the Wilson family who lost their home to fire. Johnny Groff and spouse celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary with relatives and a noon dinner.
Mrs and Mrs Herbert King and other relatives attended the funeral of Clara Jane Hargan at Mt Zion church near Brooks Thursday. The notice also lists multiple Sunday visits and dinners at area homes across Brooks, Sharpsburg, Indianola, and Omaha with several local families mentioned.
