Bedford Senior Class Day Recalls Through Years on TV

The senior class day program at Bedford High School aired Friday May 22 at 2 15 pm in the auditorium. Scenes traced kindergarten to senior year. Awards in athletics library music typing and vocational agriculture were given by the BHS instructor. Committee members listed include Bonnie John Ronnie Beaver Don Cox Howard Freemyer Nancy Marley Wanda McNutt Bob Million JoAnn Rankin and John Whitten.

Kindergarten Dismissal Marks End of First School Year

Bedford kindergarten pupils counted remaining days with Miss Kathryn Cavner. Like BHS seniors, the youngsters looked forward to dismissal. Plans included a picnic on Tuesday May 26 to celebrate completing their first year of school.

Showboat Minstrel Presented by Vocal Music Department

The BHS mixed chorus members in black face presented the Showboat Minstrel Tuesday evening May 19. Under Mrs. Bonnie Brown, the vocal department directed the program featuring a German band girls’ and boys’ glee clubs seven small ensembles mixed chorus and featured soloists.

The 1958-59 Bed ford Times-Press journalism class authored 1459 column inches across 35 TIP issues, averaging 41.7 inches per issue. If printed at once, the material would occupy eight and one third pages, exceeding a single TP issue without ads.

Seniors Turn In Textbooks At End Of Year

BHS seniors completed final textbook assignments and turned in school books during the last class periods on May 20 and 21. Underclassmen turned in books on May 25 and 26. Superintendent Gerald C. Bryan said books to be replaced next year incur no fines, while damaged books issued this year will incur fines.

28 Seniors Plan Future Education

A record high of 29 BHS seniors plan to pursue further education after this summer vacation, a plan noted in a Monday report.

Survey of 43 graduates shows 19 intend college 9 business school and 1 beauty school. Six plan summer jobs before further study while seven non college bound seniors have secured jobs and will begin work after graduation on May 27.

Harold Shepherd elected area Hi-Y vice president

Harold Shepherd, a BHS junior and president of the southwest Iowa Hi-Y district, was elected vice president of the area Hi-Y at the Milwaukee conference. Delegates from six districts elected him, and he will edit the area newsletter detailing Hi-Y activities.
