On May 30 nine girls met at the Eureka school house to arrange corsages for Rally Day and were served refreshments by Jo Ann Hopson and Mrs Hopson. A second meeting at the high school auditorium on June 7 planned songs with participants Nora Fine Dianne Wolverton Jean Stephens Cora Beal Cecile Hoffman and Jo Ann Hopson.
The Washington Farmers held their first annual tour on Friday June 9. They began by meeting at Richard Parks to view his project then visited several other boys projects. A sack lunch was eaten at the lake followed by a 2:00 baseball game at the Bedford school diamond with the Benton 4 H club.
Fifteen Tyler County 4-H boys from local clubs will attend a three day education and fun program at Iowa State College next week. They will tour television studios, learn home art, and hear about Finland for the 1949 International Farm Youth Exchange. The 1950 theme is Better Living for a Better World. Dean Hensley Bedford joins eight delegates, with Kirk Nicholson and John Hunter guiding the group.
John Hopson Ross Rockets El don Stithem Jackson Edwin Robinson Jefferson Jays and Dean Hensley are named as candidates for the State 4-H club office.
The Jackson 44H spent a day on their annual club tour last Saturday June 10 making ten stops in the morning. A noon weiner roast fed the group before an afternoon of softball and a refreshing dip in a farm pond.
Six members and one leader attended the all day meeting with Leanna Porter. Leanna Porter and Geralda Magee were elected as voting delegates for Rally Day, with G. Barnett chosen to hold flowers. Ann Stephens Roberta Bennett Karla England and Shirley Borland named to carry banners. Lesson on bread making by Mrs. Lee Parsons featured a whole wheat loaf and assorted rolls. Stephens and Magee demonstrated Butter Cake. Next meeting set with Roberta and Garnett Bennett. The Ross Rockets 4-H club met at Rex John’s June 7 for field day planning and a two dollar fund donation for State Camp. Mr. Hopson led the discussion. Games and refreshments followed.
Host boys and girls celebrated Phyllis Fishells birthday on June 6 with games in the yard and gift opening. The group then roasted weiners in the timber before parting for home after an enjoyable evening and best wishes for many more birthdays.
The Marshall Pals gathered June 5 at Mrs Wilbur Simmons home. Leaders demonstrated bread making with various rolls and techniques. Refreshments were served. Next meeting planned at Donabelle Davison's home.
The Clayton Cloverleaf 4 H club held an all day meeting at Jean Corliss home on June 2 1950. Ten members and four visitors attended. Plans were completed for the club s participation in upcoming activities.
Eileen Ripperger was chosen to represent the club at State Convention with Sandra Sawyer as alternate. Meetings set for the 2nd and 4th Thursday each month. Demonstrations featured Yeast Rolls and Bread by Mrs. Wilbur Simmons and Mrs. Ernest Sharp, and a Conventional Butter Cake by Jean Corliss and Aileen Ripperger. The cake received an excellent rating. Members updated their record books. The all day meeting closed with 4-H songs.
Washington Farmerettes gathered at Glenna Lock’s home on June 7 for an all day meeting. Sixteen members two leaders and six visitors attended with demonstrations on baking bread baking biscuits making a pie crust and canning meat. The group and the Marshall Pals were tasked with creating the chain for the Rally Day honorary initiation. Margaret White is the county office candidate.
The Jefferson Jays started their 4-H tour Friday June 2 at Leo Dillon's home with John Hunter Co. Ex Director accompanying the group. Rain prevented visiting all members' homes and club projects were photographed.
The Grove Stockmen 44H! met on Monday night with Donald Gill and Daryl Paul singing Have I Told You Lately that I Love You. The club voted to pay travel expenses for candidate Carroll Long to Ames. Summer meetings will be the first Thursday each month. The secretary Harlan Shellman has left for Texas to join the U. S. Air Force. June tour is Sunday June 25 and all boys are urged to bring their dads.
The tour will start at Grove Center where the ladies prepare a basket dinner. Mrs. Lyle Stoakes, noted hog producer, will be the boys' guest for that day.
A sizable crowd attended Wednesday evening free movie events sponsored by businessmen in Sharpsburg. Movies will be shown each Wednesday evening throughout the summer months.
Mr and Mrs Donald Scott recently married were honored guests at a gift shower held at the Methodist church parlor. W S C S members met with devotional and a Bible quiz led by Mrs Roy Beck. The secretary for the year was named Mrs Clifford Million. The next meeting will be July 20 at Mrs Kenneth Coxs home with assistant hostess Mrs Claude Carter.
A Cedar Falls couple traveled with their son and brother Paul Fickess and family to Lenox for the Trost and Cook reunion hosted by Mrs. Freida Boltinghouse. thirty-two attendees. Separately, Mr. and Mrs. Pearlie Richey of Cherokee joined Maggie Richey’s family for a weekend visit and a Sunday dinner with relations from Shenandoah Carroll and Sharpsburg, Clearfield, and Shenandoah connections.
The Liberty Club met with Mrs. Dow Stickelman Thursday with ten members. Next meeting set for June 29 at Mrs. Hershel Wildt’s home. Children’s Day postponed to next Sunday morning at 10 30 due to rain. Father’s Day program also next Sunday at 8 p.m. Sunday School at 10. Clyde Kremery is S S Superintendent. Miss Shirley Cortner and Dale Walters wed Thursday June 8 at 2 30 p.m. in Blockton. Rev Ralph Yadon officiated.
Graduates of Blockton High School married after a reception and honeymoon trip and will reside in Blockton. The Blockton American Legion Auxiliary met June 14 at Miss Vera Mackey’s home, reporting 46.29 from poppy sales and Memorial Day decorations. Members aided Legion services at Blockton and attended cemetery ceremonies at Athelstorm and Platteville on June 4. A care package with crafts and supplies valued at 8.50 was sent to Glenwood. Officers elected: Gwen Dolyn Drake president, Dora Hall 1st VP, Velma Garrard 2nd VP, Vera Mackey secretary, Marie Wolfe treasurer.

It raises qualifications, strengthens hiring authority, and requires a budget to fund enhanced services. Expenditures for 1949 are published due to a misunderstanding of the 1949 financial report. the Taylor County budget is among the lowest in Iowa.
