Athelstan Holiness Church invites attendance with Sunday school at 10 am and preaching at 8 pm led by Rev TJ Overholt and pastors TJ and Lulu Overholt. Local notices report visitors and travel, plus a railroad washout causing train suspensions and several local visits over the weekend.
Employment activity noted near Corning and Clearfield as Durfee and others travel to Victor Chandler home for a weekend visit. Mary Yarger of St. Joseph spends weekend with M F Older, who returns home Monday. Grace Balch and Ora Hayes stay several days in Clarinda. Lulu Redburn travels to Sheridan Friday due to sister Lou Wemery’s serious illness. Jason Neumeyer visits his parents near Bedford Wednesday and Thursday.
Mrs Ed Susy Gordon 77 died at 3 30 am Saturday at Methodist hospital Des Moines born in Pennsylvania moved to Lenox as a child. She and her husband marked their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1945. Survived by two sons Hugh Gordon Marion IA Lee Gordon Marshall MO a nephew H Roy Long with them since childhood two grandsons one grandson two brothers Dr F C Long Bakersfield CA J C Long Lompoc CA one sister Mrs J A Wyant Bedford IA. Funeral at United Presbyterian church Monday afternoon led by Rev.
Edwin Bush a Lenox High and Parsons College alum class of 1947 with Marine Corps service is shown with Lionel Foley of Shenandoah as they deliver a senior song recital at Fairfield. Bush plans to teach at Pleasant Plains and both majors in music. LenoX locals note Mrs Charles Menoher visits Boulder route for Wade Menoher’s master’s in engineering while C J Everett family and guests visit Lenox.
Sharpsburg Presbyterian invites all to Church School and Church Worship on Children’s Day June 22 at 11. Westminster Youth Fellowship Picnic is scheduled for Wednesday evening next week. Choir practice is Friday night at 8 at the church. Pastor C W Proctor leads Sunday service at 10. Church services announced.
At 11 o clock on Sunday June 15 a basket dinner follows church services. All former members invited. WSC meets June 19 at Mrs Kenneth Cox home for Guest Day. Choir practice at church Friday. Woman's Association met at Mrs Lloyd Grimm’s home. attendance thirty. Devotional led by Mrs Jim Chase. Members cleaned church and bought twelve chairs. Hostesses included Mrs Mabel Oxley and others. Visitors included the Wainwrights from Hill City and Lenox. families and friends dined with Ray Hayes, Dora Hayes, and Roy Kerns residents nearby. Revi and J W Chase returned after two weeks visiting relatives.

Rev Proctor officiated the original ceremony fifty years ago. Mrs Prudence Judkins of Downers Grove Illinois arrived Sunday to visit her sister and brother in law.
L A Logan, superintendent of Shenandoah schools, named to the State Teachers College at Maryville summer faculty to teach Social Science. He previously served as superintendent of Bedford schools.
Miss Edith Briggs of Athens Texas visited Bedford and sparked local chatter with her trip. Her presence drew attention from residents as she toured and shared stories of her hometown.
Wednesday, a visitor sought information about her parents Mr and Mrs George W Briggs landowners in Taylor county over six decades ago. The Briggs family moved east of Bedford then to Bedford where Mr Briggs ran an iron foundry. This was Miss Briggs first Bedford visit and she believed the brick house now occupied by Mr and Mrs T E Owings might be the home her father built.
A Civil War veteran and Justice of the Peace from Bedford, who moved to Texas in February 1888, is mentioned alongside Miss Briggs and Miss Helen Johnson, two businesswomen, as they traveled north and west after a vacation.
