Farm Bureau Women Attend Red Oak District Meeting

Mrs Merle Travis County Women’s Chairman and other county leaders attended a District Farm Bureau women’s conference in Red Oak on Friday May 26. C M Wilson editor of Bureau Farmer led a publicity discussion stressing sharp news coverage and space competition among organizations. Each special project group met separately with suggestions for program changes to be used by the state program committee.

4-H leaders plan June tours and fair activities

The 4-H club leaders session at the county bureau outlined June tours to club projects and livestock shows. They planned entry of all teams in the WB contests and discussed the fair and ticket sales for the 950 Taylor County Fair. Attendees included multiple club leaders and Dewey Hensley chaired the ticket plan.

Leaders and delegates set for State 4-H Girls Convention

Mrs Barnie Glasgow New Market and Mrs Arthur King Brockton head Taylor county leaders joining seventeen 4-H girls to Ames for the State 4-H Girls Convention June 20 to 23. Each local 4-H club will select a delegate with Rally Day June 9 announcing picks. Siam 4-H Club plans Ames short course with six members present. Larry Sprague selected and Elvis Bix as alternate. Bar bara Oxleys hosts June 18 5 start for a club project tour. Polk Sunshine Pals 4H Club held May 20 with songs practice May 30 for Rally Day and various talks and demonstrations.

4 H Members Study Five F's At Boone Camp

Verron Cox of Conway and Helen Wintermute of Blockton along with Taylor County 4 H delegates attended the state conservation camp at Mitigwa near Boone. The three day outing included lectures on furrows feath ers fins and foliage with fun added as a fourth F. Noted guests included Badger Clark and George McCullough.

Camp Mitigwa 4-H Clubs Explore Local Nature

Town State College geologist Leo Thomas explains rock formations in the Camp Mitigwa area to the 4-Hers. Merle Jones of Ledges State Park leads a birds discussion for the feathers group. Robert Moorman, extension wildlife conservationist, shares fishing tips. Richard Campbell, extension forester, plans to show foliage points in wooded camp areas.

Rural Young People meet for firelight dance at Lake of Three Fires

About 45 members of the Rural Young People gathered June 1 at Lake of Three Fires for a Weber roast, singing and square dancing by lantern light due to no electricity. Entertainment was led by Dean Hensley and Gretchen Timberlake. A July 6 dance with an orchestra at 7:30 p.m. is planned inviting all seniors and older youths.

Ardyce Clement Chosen for State 4-H Convention

At the Gay Guls Gurls 4-H Club meeting on May 23 at Betsy Johnson’s home Ardyce Clement was selected to attend the State Convention in Ames. Plans announced for a June 15 Mother-Daughter Tea and Rally Day. Donna Geek demonstrated baking custards and a $5 donation was sent to the new State 4-H camp. A softball team was chosen and refreshments were served.

4-H Bluebirds Name Representatives at June Meeting

Vickie Gould nominated for county office and Lavelle Stroborg chosen to attend the State Convention in Ames. The Bluebirds 4-H meeting was held June 1 at Jeannette King’s home with a talk, Setting Tables Attractively, by Janet Bentley.

Meeting notes show Rally Day plans and demonstrations

The report lists demonstrations titled Table Settings for Breakfast and Making Biscuits by Gould and McCalla King. Roll call included nine members and mother Mrs Zelma Gould. Plans for Rally Day on June 9 were set, with the next meeting scheduled with Janet Bentley on June 16.

Dolores Allen Named Delegates At Polk Club Convention

Dolores Allen of the Polk Sunshine Pals 44H Club was chosen as delegate at the State Convention during a May 20 meeting hosted by Joar and Madylene Hawkee. Ten members answered roll call. A committee of three was formed to track organizational points for the coming year. Demonstrations on baked and soft custard plus muffins and muffins with jelly were presented and refreshments served.
