Blockton Sells Poppies and Observes Memorial Day

The Blockton Legion Auxiliary sold poppies in Bedford on Saturday and thanks Bedford residents for support. Memorial Day events at the Liberty Memorial building drew large crowds with Rev. L. B. Day delivering The Price of Liberty. Members aided services at Rose Hill cemetery and nearby towns.

Delta Deck club hosts bridge night in Sheridan

Mrs June Dowis and Mrs Ester Blake hosted Delta Deck at Clutter cafe with four bridge tables and ten members. Seven guests from Grant City Parnell and Sheridan competed. Norman won high score, Holland second, Harris traveling prize. Refreshments served. Several Sheridan women remain in Missouri Methodist Hospital St Joseph after operations, Hibbs last and seriously ill.

Mr and Mrs C A Jackson attended Maryville State Teachers College graduation with daughter Madelyn receiving a B S degree. Venus Bond of Wakeeney Kansas and sister Mrs Wallace Cray of Maryville visited Mrs Gray Harris and Mrs Ray Carpenter Tuesday evening. Mrs Woodrow Andrews hosted the Sew and So club. embroidery and refreshments followed. R D Stowell of Conception Junction visited the Bond home. Mrs Timothy Rogers and son Jimmie from Marshalltown came for the weekend. Mrs Monte Gabbert and children Noel and Bonnie arrived from Idaho for the summer. Maryville students John Bond Denna Scott and Virginia Simpson home briefly. Mr and Mrs Dall Churchill spent Memorial Day in Bedford. The Wolvertons from Atlantic spent the weekend with the Cowens family. Mrs Belle Watson of Newton Kansas visiting her sister Rosa Lang. Anna McCollum of Kansas City weekend with her mother. J B Ruh of Sheridan and daughter Mrs Jess Straight visited in St Joseph. Mr and Mrs Ray Carpenter hosted dinner with Coddy Carpenter and Dana, Nona Anderson, Henry Murray, Paul Carpenter, Martyn and Virginia Carpenter. Dale Andrews employed at Yater cafe with Mrs Andrews lodging at Mrs Cora Candle residence.
