Bedford High School Honor Roll For Final Six Weeks

Bedford School News 7 lists seventy students named to the honor roll for the final six weeks ending May 25 under principal J. B. Taylor. The roster includes multiple seniors juniors sophomores and freshmen with several straight A and B average recipients among 12 categories and a note of nine students absent only one day.

Bedford High School announces perfect attendance class of 1954 55

Ten BHS students achieved perfect attendance for the school term under Principal J S Taylor. The honorees are Roger Reith, Connie Newbury, Lois Kemery, Janet Akers, Russell Akers, Lulu Mae Brand, Harold Hatfield, Myrna Henry, Julia Meikle, and Larry Moore. Others missed only a half day include Ramon Moore Donovan Leighton Julia Brown Vera Peach and Kay Russell.

Jones and King Share Valedictorian Honor

Bedford high announces valedictorians for the senior class of 45. Paul Jones and Dale King share the scholastic top, with Suzanne De Mott Bertha Wintermute Howard Fulham Marvin Stephens Dale Beaver Phil Bartlett Judith Mendenhall and Dave Thompson among the top ten named by Supt. R. F. Van Dyke at the May 26 graduation in the high school auditorium.

Paul Jones Wins Grinnell Scholarship in 1956 Graduate

Paul Jones a 1956 BHS graduate won a $500 Grinnell College scholarship based on high National College Entrance Exam board test scores. Son of Mr and Mrs Frank Jones he plans to study liberal arts pre law at Grinnell and will use a $200 American Baptist Convention scholarship there.

Edwin Stock Wins Citizenship Award At Local Graduation

Edwin Stock, 1955 Bedford High School graduate, was chosen by Bedford High faculty for the Town Car Association citizenship award. He received a scroll and medal from Attorney James A. Lucas as the Iowa Bar Association’s annual program honors a graduating student for outstanding citizenship.

Bedford 8th Grade Commencement Held May 25

Bedford marks its 8th grade commencement at the high school auditorium with 86 students receiving diplomas. Rev William Miller delivered the address while Roy J Reith presided over awards and Supt R F Van Dyke handed out diplomas. Notable honorees include Julia Henry Larry Hatfield Maurice Caskey and Jeannette Cheers among others. Ten High Students listed with awards across scholarships activities spelling citizenship and years of service.

Memorial Day burial service at Hopkinns cemetery

A Boyd Day weekend service at Hopkinns cemetery conducted by Glen Ulmer Post No 288 American Legion opened with Vern Melvin in charge and Ralph Davenport as chaplain. Rev Bart Griffith addressed mourners and Mrs James Binkley placed a wreath on Glen Ulmer’s grave. Fourteen graves on the honor roll were noted.

Home Wedding for Jeannette King in Blockton

Miss Jeannette King daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur King wed Jack Louis Huff son of Mrs Vira Huff and the late Walter Huff in a May 22 ceremony at the King residence Blockton. The double ring service was conducted by Rev John Huntington with a reception for fifty guests. The bride wore a white nylon dress and rose bouquet. groom employed by John Dey Rubber and Supply Co Omaha.
