Shelter Added To Bedford City Park In 14 by 28 Foot Build
Bedford adds a 14 by 28 foot shelter at Bibbina Park east of the tennis courts with a reinforced concrete floor a fire proof glass roof and electric lights. Harold Bowers leads the project while Park Board members Dr Earl Stone Alan Thompson and Wayne Caskey donate their time noting city employees support. The park already features asphalted park roads playground equipment two tennis courts croquet pads horseshoe pits 25 picnic tables and planned replacement of 12 tables with easy to sit designs.

Funeral services for Garland Clark Crum 73 lifelong Bedford resident were held at Shum Novinger Funeral Home. Born February 7 1889 in Bedford she died June 29 1962 in St Joseph Mo She married W E Crum Jr August 6 1910 and they shared over 50 years together Surviving are son W E CrumbI daughter Ann Crum Smith five grandsons one great granddaughter a sister in law three nieces and one nephew The obituary notes her lifelong residence and ties to Bedford and the State Street funeral home.

Beetle Traps Placed In Taylor Co
Japanese beetle detection program places sixteen yellow traps in Taylor county with fourteen in Bedford and two in Lenox. The invasive pest, accidental importation before 1916, attacks crops and ornamentals. traps use an attractant oil and are inspected by officials. Report suspected beetles to County Ext Director Carroll Olsen or the State Entomologist at Iowa State University.

Travel Camp Plans To Nicaragua With Caugheys
Sponsor tour leaders Rev Calvin Caughey and Ruth Caughey plan a travel camp for eight senior high youths to Nicaragua to visit Baptist missionaries. Out of town attendees joined the last rites for Mrs W E Crum Jr in Bedford on Sunday. Included were her daughter and family from St Joseph Missouri, a niece from Roslyn New York, a grandson from Torrance California, and friends from Perry Iowa and Denison Iowa.

A Missouri group formed the Nodaway Co. Lake Committee to create a 400 acre park with an 80 acre fishing lake in Nodaway County. President Richard H. Watkins of Maryville says $12,500 is still needed to reach the $100,000 target and invites donations to the Nodaway Valley Bank or Citizens State Bank in Maryville for broad public access to the lake.
