Twelve Students Presented In School Declamatory Contest

Twelve pupils competed in the final home declamatory contest at the NEW MARKET school auditorium on Tuesday January 19. Contestants performed in three divisions with titles and authors including Verna Grace Hipsley and Calvin Luther in oratorical, Mary Alice Blake slee and Maxine Blakeslee in dramatic, and Sam Cade Violet Peterman Ruth Shields Neil Pella Juanita Lucas Gene Erle Pratt in humorous readings. A church dining room meeting followed with lunch and a short business session.

Brooks Improving Returns Home Part Time

Mrs. Brooks reports that her son Clarence Brooks, previously in Veterans Hospital, is improving enough to stay at home briefly before more treatment. Rev. John T. Parker of Shenandoah will conduct services at the Baptist church on the first and third Sundays of each month.

Mrs Walter Noble and Marcella Hicks were honored guests at a dinner at the Noble home with family and friends. Another dinner guests were Mr and Mrs Paul Clark and others followed by a coasting party at the Noble farm. Local clubs met with social hours, prizes awarded, and installations noted. Library Board Elects Officers in Clearfield Meeting

The Clearfield Library Board met January 4 at Mrs. Truman Hidley’s home and elected officers: President Mrs. A S Conaway, Vice President Mrs. E C Nickle, Secretary Miss Maud Hamilton, Treasurer Mrs. C B Parslow. Uncle Billy Cramer dies at 112 near Pleasant Ridge

SIAM William Cramer known as Uncle Billy dies at his home near Pleasant Ridge on Saturday. Funeral services were held Monday in Clarinda. The Anniversary club gathered Saturday evening at the Irwin Wilson home for Mrs Wilsons birthday. The West Side Pinochle club met at John Terbell's home. Many local youths went coasting Sunday south of Central School in Buchanan township.
