BCHS Auditorium Gets New Purple Curtains
New purple velour stage and window curtains were installed in the BCHS auditorium last week. The fully lined additions are fire proof, moth treated and feature a large white B. The drapes cost $1,014 and replace 36-year-old window coverings and 13-year-old stage curtain ordered last fall from an Omaha firm.

National Merit Scholarship test set for March 5
Frank Nugent principal and test supervisor says the National Merit qualifying test will be held March 5 at 9 a.m. at the high school. Any second semester junior may take the exam with a 1 dollar fee. Twenty five exams are available and twenty pupils have signed up. The test offers financial aid prospects and helps determine future field of study.

State President Reports on Trip to Williamsburg
Iowa Student Council president Hugh King attended the Student House of Burgesses in Williamsburg Virginia. March Band Carnival Plans Announced By BCHS
Committees for the annual band carnival set for March 16 will be announced this week by BCHS band director Bill Armstrong. The dance band will provide music for a benefit dance on March 8 to raise funds for new band uniforms. Instrumentalists take a larger role this year as band mothers step back. Students will solicit donations and prizes and present a concert with a small admission charge.

Bedford Senior Lived in Jail to Attend School Play
Edd Hobbs, a Bedford senior from Blockton, stayed in the Taylor County jail while rehearsing for the senior class play Arsenic and Old Lace. His lodging came via Sheriff Art Matheny's family, offering a unique dormitory setup with three prisoners and a watchful environment that helped him focus on acting. He slept in the women’s cell, kept cell doors open at night, and found the jail a surprising fit for his schooling needs and role realism.
