Bedford high defeated Leon 54 to 31 to clinch the Bluegrass Conference title Friday night. Bedford surged with a 22 point fourth quarter as their offense heated up late. This victory marks the Bulldogs thirteenth straight win and sixteenth in eighteen games. They face Corning this Friday on home court as the season winds down and sectional playoffs start next week.
Mrs. Sadie McConnell of Omaha died at 84. Survivors include sister Mrs. Littlewood and John Godfrey of New Market. Funeral services were held with attendance from Mrs. Walter Garrison and others. The report also notes local church activities, March of Dimes donations, and community notices in New Market and Taylor County.
Mrs. Ben Pullan Sr announces the marriage of daughter Harryette to Sgt Themes K Brummet of Camp Phillins Kansas son of Mr and Mrs Tom Brummett of York Neb. The ceremony was performed by Judge Tucker in Kansas City Kansas on Friday February 4. The bride wore a navy suit with blue and white accessories. The groom wore the army uniform. Both are well known locally from New Market class of 1929. The bride attended Cedar Falls College and was a teacher before joining the New Market Coal Company as bookkeeper. Brummett has served in the army for three years.
Pvt. Forest Hanshaw of Bedford near Boise visits his aunt Mrs. I M Lindsay. Numerous Bedford Scottsbluff and Omaha trips describe visits by Bayles Kress Montz Combs Gardner Madden Rayborn Brooks Brooks Golding Shore Savage Lieneman Blakes and Tee to relatives and friends in Nebraska Iowa and South Dakota over the weekend amid family illness and employment moves.
The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Longfellow died at Creston Hospital after 13 days. S. H. Fosmire died at home eight days after a severe stroke, aged 82. Clearfield and Grant township contributed 80 to the March of Dimes campaign per chairwoman Mrs. Frank Bye.
