Connie Shafar and Janice Hamilton received I ratings at the junior high school music contest held in Corning on February 4. Eighteen Bedford Community junior high band members from Conway participated with soloists and ensembles led by Mrs. Ona Chaney. More than 200 students entered. first-time judging for several seventh and eighth graders. The band earned four II ratings and six III ratings as well.

BCHS Band Members Receive $910 In Scholarships
A total of $910 in scholarships was awarded to eight BCHS band members for the six week summer session at the University of Kansas art and music camp in Lawrence. Students Pat Brown Jean Dunkin Pat Henderson Bob Hill Joyce Keith Betsy Thompson Julia Stacy and Sharon Turner will attend starting June 18 to access college facilities and participate in band orchestra chorus and art classes led by outstanding instructors.
