Athelstan area residents gather for visits and a family reunion at the Frank Smith home honoring Pvt. Curtis P. Smith of San Francisco. Mrs. Mary Lantz is ill at her home with relatives visiting from Kansas City Blockton Clarinda and Maloy plus work trips to Parnell and Grant City.
Gravity received $60 in donations from business firms and citizens as part of a grateful community effort. Local clubs held meetings and social gatherings Friday and Saturday with members sharing memories and prizes, including defense stamps as prizes and refreshments being served.

Mr and Mrs Guy Hicks and Mrs Clara Larison visited at the Jim Jefferies home Tuesday with Mrs Larison staying indefinitely. Mrs Anna Stewart of Atlantia and Mrs Walter Lake of Bedford visited the Glenn Butts home Wednesday. Orlo Hamm and family visited relatives in Bradyville Monday. Ray Kreps entertained his sister Vere Hall and family at dinner Sunday. Milo Allison and family were dinner guests in the home of their daughter near Bedford Sunday. Bruce Williamson and Donald hosted sister Mrs Harry Houk and Virgil Williams at dinner Sunday. Arlo Hamm moved from the Jim Howe farm to the Jones farm vacated by Doyle Thompson.
The Lenox boys game moved from Feb 14 to Feb 22 due to the tournament. Nine dollars was collected from the infantile paralysis fund jars in the last week of January.
Mrs. Dell Pennebaker hosted a W C T U gathering with thirteen members and guest Mrs. Brown. Devotions by Mrs. Charley Rinaberger and lessons by Mrs. Mary Underwood and Mrs. John Chase. Rev John W Chase hosted four boys for a Monday birthday supper, honoring Buzzy Chitty. Relatives surprised Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pennebaker for their wedding anniversary with dinner by daughter Marilyn. Guests included Coffey Missouri residents Olen Smith and others from Sharpsburg and Lenox.
The church urges all members and friends to attend Every Member Canvass Sunday February 20 with a potluck dinner and pledged cards ready. The Young Adult class meets February 22 at the Chase home and Westminster Fellowship gathers February 23 for business and social time.
