Bedford High School staged a two act TV themed musical revue on February 2 in the school auditorium. The program featured parodies of Arthur Godfrey and Ed Sullivan along with a large student cast, dance band, and multiple acts from singing to dancing.
Mary Ann Sharp a BHS junior was accidentally omitted from the B average list on the third six weeks honor roll which appeared in the January 27 issue of the Times Press.
Public relation men representing Drake University and Grinnell College visited Bedford High School on Monday January 31 to contact seniors. Superintendent R F Van Dyke notes about twelve percent of recent BHS graduates pursue education beyond high school.
Seventeen BHS seniors named to the cast for the senior class play That's My Roommate to be presented April 4 and 5. The cast includes Phil Baperlett Randall Bowen Donabelle Davidson Suzanne De Mott Norma Fine Bill Hensch Bu Hullinger Paul Jones Dale King Ann Lyons Judith Mendenhall Howard Putnam Jane Reynolds Marvin Stephens Edwin Lock David Thompson Bertha Wintermute. Mr Pitner directs with Sue Young as assistant director Stage Manager LeRoy Hoops and Wilma Newby as assistant stage manager.
The production lists include chairman Myrna Wilson with Wilma Newby and Bethel Thornton. Makeup staff Nancy Heashey Betty Gilbert Jessie Wray Marthe Maretal. Stage properties chair Allen Akers Richard Haynin Sim Kra sar RB Walston. Asters include San ca Bowers Betty Gilbert Mary Huse Jeashe Wray. Advertising and ticketing by David Howes Merwin Richanisen.
For 223 students this is an average of about 2.9 tardies per student across four days and six on Friday. The tally totals 664 tardies not counting bus delays due to weather.
The BHSS senior class finished a one day magazine subscription drive sponsored by Curtia Publishing Co on February 3. They earned a profit of 120.30 from 344.35 in subscriptions, missing a 600 goal with Ramon Moore as top seller at 72.00 and certificates of merit awarded to Bartlett Fine Moore and Thompson for 30 or more.
The first 1955 issue of the Match, a BHS mimeographed newspaper, appeared Jan 31. Edited by Randall Bowen and written by class members, with Bunny Jo Ewart mimeographing. It includes news stories features an editorial a gossip page and a crossword.
A damaged OCR item mentions a student answer and a teacher guiding a student with a metal piece. It notes a student earned a badge and a device tied to Masdlacht Batteries. The event reference includes Murray Iowa and grades four through sixth.
BHS held a speech contest sample at the auditorium on Monday January 31 under instructor Monty Pitner. Performers Evelyn Russell Susanne DeMott Howard Putnam Bertha Wintermate William Hensch Ed Stock Sandra Busby Suzanne DeMott Carol Poole Al Stock Dave Thompson and Bertha Wintermute will represent the school at the district contest in the same venue on February 16.

Sixteen Bedford high school vocal music students under Mrs. Ringold attended the annual vocal clinic in Creston January 26 and 27. The event, sponsored by the Creston Chamber of Commerce, brings delegates from about 20 high schools and features an Iowa State College music professor directing the clinic. Attendees from Bedford included Paul Freemyer Bill Hensch Marion Livingston Ann Lyons James Marley Cheryl O'Dell Pat Perkins Carol Poole Joyce Pullen Howard Putnam Roger Reith Bob Sawyer Alvira Stock Edwin Stock Carol Thompson and Kay Wintermute.
Hopkins notes the senior class selects Here Comes the Bride as its play with cast led by John O RiIey Dick Frame and Joyce Pistole directed by Mrs Helen Harvey. Also reported are birthday celebration for J W DeMott and church activities including a missions school at Wray Memorial Methodist with Mrs L R Wiley and a Boosters club gathering at the Baptist church.
Clarence Robison from Toledo Iowa visits with his wife and their son Chester Robison and family. The Robisons work at the Juvenile Home for Girls in Toledo.
An advertisement touts Boyer's Septic Cleaner and Drain Opener as a low cost quick solution for clogged sewers and drainage caused by roots, rags, paper and organic matter, claiming saving lawn digging by clearing drains fast.
Thirteen Bedford junior high students achieved perfect attendance in the first semester led by principal Roy Reith. Eightth graders Ronnie Beaver Judith Dawson Jesse Everhart Donna Gaul Donna Gamel Gwen dolyn Moore Judith Schollian Roy Spencer and Martin Tompkins are listed for perfect attendance, along with seventh graders Greg Guenther John Moore Kay Cross and Gary Moore. For the third six weeks eighth grade Elizabeth Taylor Ronnie Reed Harold Park Larry Hatfield Barton Gilreath Howard Freemyer Donnie Opperson Ronnie Cowles and Larry Bedell are noted for perfect attendance.
Bedford grade school students have used an arithmetic device this year to teach fundamentals of arithmetic. The device checks addition subtraction division and multiplication with an answer key for each group. A teacher demonstrates how the device by giving a problem to a student.
