Sharpsburg residents and relatives gathered for the funeral of Sam McCrea held in Bedford on Wednesday. The report lists numerous attendees including the Rutledges, Shums, and various Brown and Reed families, plus others from Clarinda and Des Moines.
The Sharpsburg bank announces another dividend payment this week on trust certificates, signaling continued earnings distribution to certificate holders.
Primary room students enjoy weekly reader subscriptions. They drew cartoons by Mr. Denham and reproduced an Indian picture with Bob by Brown achieving an almost perfect likeness.
Upper Grade News lists students earning 100 in spelling and notes county contest in Bedford March 19. Sixth grade English produced plays at Young Citizens' club. Declamatory contest held January 26 with winners Alice Fickess Dora Grimm Ellen Knott. Freshmen and sophomores organize an H E H club. Home economics class compiles high school etiquette book. Several sports results and upcoming games described amid local notices of visits and funerals.

Harshaw Clarey Reed Dalbey families visit Bedford. Ewart Swanson Crew Abarr visit and return to college. Andersons Heaton Trimble families host visits.
Mrs A M Townsend 86 longtime Hopkins resident died Tuesday night at her daughter's home north of Hopkins after long illness. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Hopkins Methodist church and burial followed in Hopkins cemetery. Survived by daughter Mrs Willard Smith and son Joe Townsend of Creston plus a half brother William Dwyer in Kansas.
Bert Baldwin 54 died after a head injury from emery wheel fragments while gumming a saw. Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Hopkins where he lived on the family farm. He leaves a wife six daughters two sons and a sister. Burial was in Hopkins cemetery. Hopkins high school basketball went 1-1 over the weekend defeating Masena and losing to Minburn in overtime. They host Maloy at Bedford Thursday evening.
Hopkins society notes show Mr and Mrs Wren Peve entertained the Chat N Contract club Thursday. Mrs F O Litsch to host a Valentine party for Chapter K PEO Friday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Ira Newton to entertain the bridge club Friday evening. Mr and Mrs Glade Traster hosted the Pinochle club Sunday.
Miss Margaret Hanna was a weekend guest of Miss Mary Margaret Hartness in Maryville. Rev B H Harmon of Rosendale spent Thursday in Hopkins and led the Bert Baldwin funeral. Edwin Gray of Quincy NL visits his parents Mr and Mrs F L Gray. Mr and Mrs Ed King of Gowrie IA visited Mr and Mrs W F King last week. Mr and Mrs Irvin Hanna attended the lumbermen's convention in Kansas City last week.
Lenox notes show active social life with bridge games high scores won by Mrs. Raymond Miller and Lou Anderson, Priscilla Circle meetings, L F C Club program talks, rook games, and two course dinners. Several residents attend events in Cres ton Des Moines and Omaha while others plan travel and spring buying in Kansas City.
