Numerous gatherings mark August social season with visits, parties, and rodeo outings. Local families including Beach, Stoakes, and Tyler hosts hosted guests, while Sidneys rodeo attracted residents like Haigler Potts and Bricker. Health news notes 90 year old Mrs Wilson injuring her hip.
Prairie Gem community birthdays are celebrated for Marion and Donna Jean Garver. Families including Wilsons and Garvers gather at G. G. Garver home in Tingley and attend the Farmers Holiday picnic near Corning. Various visits and social rounds are noted including Ferguson family time, Wilcox and Hegwood visits, and Chicago travel by Scholes family.
Mrs. Peacock underwent a tonsil operation on Thursday in Des Moines and returned home Saturday after the procedure.
The Valley school opens Monday August 28 with Miss Beulah Larsson as teacher. The building is newly papered and interior woodwork repainted. Coal for winter stored in the basement. Various local visits and birthday celebrations occurred across town with neighbors and relatives. A humorous note ends with a railroad agent recounting a farmer’s dairy cows being milked by trains.
The report notes the marriage of Emily Roberts daughter of Mr and Mrs Tom Roberts to John Agnew last Monday at Sidney. The couple will reside in Villisca with Mr and Mrs D Warner of Macomb Illinois visited Gravity last week at the home of their daughter Mrs Leon Ledgerwood.
Bill Mahan and Joe Mahan with Mrs A C Scott visited the J C Allen home while John Bordner spent the weekend with Harry Bordner and family. Clarice Beauchamp and Lois Scott stayed with the Lee girls Friday afternoon. The Beauchamps and Swaims hosted and attended several gatherings. Lewis Davidson’s funeral in Bedford drew attendance from Elmer Beauchamp, Mr and Mrs Elmer Beauchamp, Mr and Mrs Harry Bordner and John Bordner.
Sheridan voters chose repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment by 75 to 0. The column then lists local residents visiting relatives, travel plans, illness and recoveries, weekend guests, and social calls among families from Sheridan, Danville, Council Bluffs, Sioux City, and Lake Okoboji, with several names and places mentioned.
