Washington Farmers 4-H Club Plans Skating Party

The Washington Farmers 4-H Club met at Neil Glass's home on July 14 with nine members. Richard Park and George Baker were asked to join the county fair demonstration team. They discussed fundraising for the club treasury and closed with a football game after adjournment.

Annual achievement day held at Marilyn Parks home

Twenty seven members mothers and visitors gathered on July 20 for the annual achievement day. Mrs Wendell Davidson judged the many exhibits for the fair. A "Queen of the Party" demonstration was given by Beverly Williams Marilyn Park Cherilyn Garner and Cectle.

Bears in the Dessert Play Staged by Local Group

Hoffman Cora Beal Dianne Wol verton Betty McNutt and Norma Fine acted out a play titled The Bears in the Dessert. Refreshments were served buffet style.

Local Achievement Day Hosted by Gay Maidens 4-H Club

On July 19 the Gay Maidens 4-H Club hosted Local Achievement Day at Kay Wintermute’s home. Demonstrations on Making Bread and Fancy Rolls by Carol Halds iak and Helen Wintermute. Making Salads by Bertha Wintermute and Kay Wintermute. Table Settings by Helen Livingst on and Alice Ann Wintermute. Mrs Hunter and Hazel Woods judged exhibits slated for fall.

Holt Lassies Hold Achievement Night at Oak Hill

The Holt Lassies held an achievement night on July 18 at Oak Hill church with Mrs John Hunter judging fair exhibits. A short program preceded refreshments in the basement. The Boys Be Square group met July 18 at Billy Robinsons home with six members present to plan fair tickets and projects. Dee Davidson spoke on his trip to the Ames short course. The next meeting will be with Gayle Neal and Hearl Garner.

Holt Lassies Hold All Day Meeting at Fishell Home

The Holt Lassies gathered August 2 at Phyllis Fishell’s home for talks and demonstrations. Patsy Curtis spoke on fruit and vegetable storage, Nadine Palmer on diet, Phyllis Fishell demonstrated freezing corn, Norma Jean Beemer demonstrated freezing vegetables and peaches, and Carolyn Young spoke on containers for frozen fruit. After dinner a business meeting discussed plans for the State Fair trip, an ice cream social, a party, and using premium money.

Community Meeting Notes Mention Gas Fund for Trip

The group discussed raising funds to cover fuel costs for a trip to St. Joseph. They decided to give Myrle Fishell some money for gas. The next meeting is scheduled for August 6.

United Missionary Church Sunday Schedule

The United Missionary Church posts a weekly timetable with Sunday School at 9:30 am, morning worship at 11:00 am, a young people's service at 7:00 pm, evening worship at 8:00 pm, and a mid-week prayer service Thursday at 8:00 pm led by Pastor J. B. Starkey.

American Legion Auxiliary Meets at Clara Brown Home

The American Legion Auxiliary met at Clara Brown's home with Opal Brown assisting. President Mrs. Regina Hawkins led the business portion as twelve members answered roll. The next meeting is set for Friday September 1 with Margaret Fuller and Mary Fuller assisting.

Local residents take summer trips and host visitors

Mr and Mrs Loyd Shore return August 2 from a Black Hills North Dakota and Yellowstone Park tour. They visited Mr Shore’s sister and husband D F Kelly at Park Rapids Minnesota. Other guests included Mr and Mrs M B Bolsem and son from Douglas Mississippi and Belle Sue Holbrook of Des Moines. Also present were Mr and Mrs Henry Browning Burling ton Junction Mo Miss Vida Nelson Bonnie Reed Francis Pfander of Clarinda Fern Shantz Red Oak Sam James Hamilton Mo and Miss Corda Fuller who left for two weeks in Denver Tacoma Seattle. Mr and Mrs Orville Wood and family left for a three week western trip.

Missionary Society and Friendly Neighbor Club Meet

United Presbyterian Missionary Society met August 2 at the church for an engaging Missionary Study and planning of future activities. The Friendly Neighbor Club gathered August 3 at Mrs. Tom Jamis home with 25 members and several guests and children present and an afternoon of activities.

Community Club Activities Fill Week With Meetings

Local clubs held meetings and visits across the week. Hi Way Culture Club hosted by Mrs. Lula Parrish. Busy Bee Club worked on comforters for four homes. Kensington Club enjoyed a seven o clock picnic supper at the Bennett home. Christian church Women’s Council met with 55 in attendance with a program by Ella Mae Baker. Methodist Missionary Society gathered for devotion and topics on many lands. Loyal Neighbors Club held contests and visiting at Mrs. Grant Parkens. Various local residents visited family and friends, including Mrs. Gleash Gleason of Ponca, Neb., and travelers from Des Moines, Chicago, and Hill City, Kansas.

Mrs W C Williams and Mrs R C Van Winkle and children of Omaha and Mr and Mrs Wm Parkens of Independence Missouri visited Mrs Henrietta Fosmire. Mr and Mrs Fred Dowell and Mr and Mrs Gordon Dowell spent Sunday in Des Moines with Mr and Mrs Pherrin Dowell. Gordon and Pherrin have received their U S Service calls. Dr H C Moore left Thursday to visit his mother in Texas with his wife.

Nesbitts arrive in Sheridan from Michigan

Dr and Mrs B P Nesbitt of Jumsing Michigan arrived in Sheridan last Sunday. They will occupy their home recently purchased from A A Cook when the doctor returns from Tulsa to tend his brother Dr P P Nesbitt who is seriously ill. The Adult Ladies Sunday School Class met Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Mary Churchill. Sixteen members and five visitors attended. Mrs Harold Haley and three children of Los Angeles with her sister left Saturday for Wisconsin to visit her parents after a month in Sheridan at Jess Haley’s home.

Mrs. Donald Rodenbaugh and son of Omaha spent the weekend visiting relatives including Bobby Rodenbaugh who stayed two weeks here. Omaha Visitors Share Weekend with Local Residents

A series of Omaha visitors joined local families for a weekend gathering. Hugh King and family along with Donald King and Jack Coco and daughters Cathy and Norma Gene were hosted by Lela Clark and daughters and by George Fauser and Aileen. Also present were Mary Henderson of Tipton Iowa and Milton Faurot’s household. Mrs Josie Holmes joined her daughter-in-law Mrs Ivan Holmes from Lenox for the Omaha visit.
