Easter Weekend Social Roundup At Local Families

Easter services unite three churches in Bockton

Pre Easter services in Bockton featured the First Christian Methodist and Baptist churches. Each minister Rev Landis Rev Pinkerton and Rev Ferris delivered messages to a receptive audience. Pastor Ferris departed Monday for Pastors School in Madrid Iowa.

Conway Ladies Auxiliary Tea set April 21 at church

Conway notes report several local visits and gatherings. The Conway Ladies Auxiliary will host an annual tea in the church basement on Thursday afternoon April 21 with a silent auction and Bingo. Attendees include many area families and neighbors.

Sheridan Residents Aid Visitors During Easter Weekend

Depot agent George Sheridan of Fredricksburg Iowa hosted overnight in Sheridan with Holloway Dunn and visited Vaneil Bell of Maryville. Easter activities included a sunrise service, breakfast, and family gatherings across multiple households.

Women’s Association hosts Lenox guests at Sharpsburg church

SHARPSBURG The Women’s Association of the Presbyterian Church entertained the Lenox association at a guest day. Carolyn Brand visiting Maryville college spent the Easter vacation at her Sharpsburg home. Irene Gold and Lyman Johnston of Clarinda were supper guests Thursday evening. Georgia and Nellie Borden attended. Mrs. June Anderson hosted the 20th Century Club with Mrs. Carl Leaventon high scorer and Mrs. Josie Holmes low. Prize went to Mrs. Fern Neuhardt. Mrs. Mary Underwood will host in May. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Harold Lawson of near Gravity visited Eva and Allie Clark. Elvin Walston and family, and Marvin Walston and others were dinner guests Saturday at the Walston home. Afternoon callers included Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Preston and Tommie near Lenox. Sunday visitors were Nebe Hunt of Nebro sts City and others.

Blissfield teacher Karole Knapp visits over Easter

Karole Jeanne Knapp a Blissfield Michigan school teacher spent Easter vacation with her parents Mr and Mrs Carol Knapp. Mr and Mrs Tom Grimm were in Corn ing for Easter with Ray Hinton theme. Their son and wife Mr and Mrs Eddie Hinton of Ames and Mrs Henderson and daughter of Corning were guests.

Dam completes erosion control structure on Adah Taylor farm

A 2700 cubic yard erosion control dam was finished on the Adah Taylor farm in Polk township. The spillway uses 80 feet of 8 inch smooth iron pipe with a hooded inlet making it Taylor county’s first of its kind this spring. Invitations to bid on 9 erosion control dams and 1 culvert riser were mailed to bidders. Weather favored conservation work with widespread layout requests for terraces diversions waterways and livestock ponds and tile installations underway across the county.

Platte Peppy Pals 4H Club met at Pau la Haering home with 16 members and two guests Judye Bennett and Mrs. Lewis Reed. President Patty Brown called the meeting. Sandra Cooper spoke on Vitamin C and Linda Crowell compared orange juice vitamin C content. Demonstrations covered dips and crackers, muffins for breakfast, scrambled eggs, and cocoa methods. Farene Shawler led a nutrition quiz. Reporter Vicki Davenport.
