Harry Lambley buys the A. J. Heninger residence in southwest Gravity. Mrs. Spiers purchases the Mulford property in east Gravity.
A sequence of local gatherings includes the Just Eight Bridge club dinner with guests the Morgan and Oxley households, a 7 oclock bridge night hosted by the Orville Bates pair, and social notes from Oak Hill Aid Society at Mrs. Chas Lewis's Hopkins home. Also listed are Taylor County Study Group Masonry remarks, Lee Community school event, PTA programs, and church ladies meeting with hosting duties and refreshment details.
The Woman's Study Club met April 18 at Mrs. Chas. Weller's home with a program on Inca Land Agriculture in the Andes Chili and South America followed by roll call music. Mrs. Keith Hadley hosted the Double Deck Club Friday with guests Mrs. Vern Cooper Gladys Bycroft Lucile Thomas and Cleo Roberts. A neighborhood group celebrated Mrs. Coy and Ora Nelson birthdays April 11 at the Coy home with C J Nelson Jennie Alexander and others in attendance. A birthday party for Clara Louise at Paul Morris's home featured pink and blue color themes and a dinner at individual tables with many relatives and friends. The faculty gathering Thursday evening honored Supt. and Mrs. T. R. Hefley.
Gravity School seniors dominated weekend activities with a church party hosted by the Meth odist Church alumni. A surprise party honored Helen Roberts daughter of Mrs D A Roberts, while seniors and staff prepared for class plays and upcoming tournaments with named participants in both Clarinda and Marinda events.

Grant Brown was elected police judge and Bryan Richey and Everett Orme were chosen as aldermen in the city election held Tuesday. The Dramatic club presented the contest play The Summoning of Everyman at the Meliseti theater Tuesday evening.
Fred Gray and others win re election on Gleeton Tuesday defeating Ceol Appleton Galen arn toy Sturgeon in the Test.
A deceased former Hopkins resident, Mr. and Mrs Siegfried, are noted with cremation in 1938 Denver and burial in Hopkins. The text lists surviving family, including sons Jesse and Ve Pre mete, and mentions ties to Denver Colorado and Maryville.
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse J. Siegfried accompanied the body. Dr. John DeMotte of Kansas City, a grandson, also attended the services.
The Hopkins high school dramatic club took first place at the district contest in Maryville in the serious play division. They advance to the state meeting in Columbia in May to perform Summoning of Everyman with a colorful medieval costume set and a cast led by Everyman Lewis Nicholson and other named players.
The notice lists two vacancies in the high school and two in the grades. Names mentioned include Miss Babdhs, Paul Gates, Ruth Flores, Hubert ins, and Miss Merle Mumford among the reading and instruction staff.
Social calendar records include Mr and Mrs Glen Waldruff hosting the Chat N Contract club, Mrs Albert DeMott chairs Art club at Dream Kitchen in Maryville, and a Methodist church father and son banquet with Federal Judge Merril E Otis as speaker. RW Sirles presided. costumes from 110 to 20 years ago featured. 44 attendees. Christina Kysar announced engagement to Warren Coy of St Louis at a bridge party. May wedding planned. Other notices note visitors, arrivals, and local engagements among residents.
Mr and Mrs Paul Gates entertained the Pinochle club at a wiener roast marking the season’s closing. Mrs Edward Turner hosted Chapter K PEO Friday afternoon. Visits included H C Wiseman and family in Burlington Junction with locals. Warren Coy of St Louis visited friends here last weekend.
Readhead, a Lenox veterinarian for forty six years, left Thursday with his two daughters Dorothy and Merjorie to establish their home in Detroit. His daughters, Detroit teachers, helped unload the household goods. Readhead arrived in Lenox on June 7 forty six years ago and noted Lenox’s early streets with livery stables and hitching racks. He once drove eighty two miles in a single day during the horse and buggy era. His first car was a Flanders from Studebaker. Dr Readhead and Mrs Readhead wed in September 1901.
In Warsaw the Lenox group won in superiors and earned three excellent marks in the music contest. Phyllis Copeland achieved superior in piano solo, Edwin Bush superior in tenor solo, Julia Porter excellent in soprano, Phyllis Copeland excellent in mezzo soprano, and the bass quartet also rated excellent.
The Chamber of Commerce has appointed committees to organize a spring celebration scheduled for June 6 to 9 and 10. Local officials and business leaders are coordinating events and activities for the community gathering.
The MLPLO Club hosted husbands at Hotel Lenox on Tuesday evening with 7:30 serving and bridge and 42 games. Mrs Rollie Bender and Miss Mildred Peacock's party Thursday featured bridge, a gift, and refreshments. The American Legion Auxiliary met at Mrs Chas Bivens home with eight members while the Thursday Girls gathered at a local church in Cot on with fifteen members.
The program featured poems "Pansies" by Mrs. Claudie Severn and "Roses" by Mrs. Ruby Miller. Mrs. Martha Falcey presented a paper on Margaret Mitchell author of Gone with the Wind, and Mrs. Vera Strance led a contest. A sack lunch followed.
Lenox residents record a week of visits and travel including James and Kathleen Bauman in Cameron Missouri, Pearl Reynolds in Des Moines, Bob Howard’s family trip for James Quinn’s illness, Eunice Morris returning from California, and Dr Mable Wintermute’s return from Bedford. The notes also mention Kathleen Poindexter leaving for Missouri Valley to operate a beauty shop and Leo Ford visiting in hospital in Des Moines with Mrs Ford reported improving.
The Athelstan Stitch and Chatter group gathered at Mrs. Minerva Foreman’s home on April 13 for quilting. Members Ida King Eva Burns Katie Fidler Gertie Rusco Angie Freymyer Verna Jenkins Nora Barnes and the hostess attended, with visitors Mrs. Ida Campbell Mrs Emma Ford of Blockton and Mrs. E G Foreman. The next meeting will be hosted by Mrs. Hellen Miller.
C M King returned Wednesday from Chicago where he visited with the P E King Belke Roy Raper and families from the vicinity. He attended the Beaten Sunrise Service at Soldiers Front where around two hundred people gathered.
Miers and O Neal families return from visiting relatives in Kansas. Clyde Schuster and family stay with Mrs. G W Booker in Maloy. Cleta May Bownes visits grandparents and attends Athelstan school. Colorado Springs visitors join Mrs. George Allison in Sheridan. Several residents travel to Clarinda Bedford and Blockton for visits and business. one ill relative cared for by Harman Miller.
Conway notes report the Pinochle Club at the Duncan home with Roy Cox high score and Mrs. Bert Powell low. Philathea class met at the church with 23 members. Ada Connor led the lesson. Willing Workers Sunday school class met at Mrs. Miler home. Cora Morris led. Otto Hess guests dined with Ray Philpott group for J. M. Philpott birthday.
Conway pupils report top averages by grade with seniors leading the six week efficiency contest at 38.11 while juniors total 32.92. banquets noted include Junior-Senior event on April 29 and the annual basketball banquet April 14 at the M E Church with Mother’s Club catering and student helpers.
Mr and Mrs H E Ware are the week end guests of his parents in Quitman Missouri.
The county agent announces a continued spray card service for fruit growers in Taylor County. Last year 75 orchardists requested the service. Guidance from Iowa State College experts outlines dormant sprays for apples, peach leaf curl, San Jose scale, and raspberry diseases, plus timing and method of application.
