Philathea class plans April meeting near Conway

The Philathea class will meet in April at Mrs. John Dorrs southwest of Conway on Wednesday April 14 with Mrs. F A Stafford and Mrs. C E Straight as assisting hostesses All members urged to attend The class netted 365 at a recent Conway food sale and plans another on Saturday April 17 1889 The obituary section recalls a local man who served in World War I and died leaving a wife Maud Ellen Knott and three children plus his mother and three brothers in the Conway area

Mrs. A. D. Fine Hosts 77th Birthday Day

Mrs. A D Fine entertained Sunday March 28 in honor of her husband s seventy seventh birthday. Dinner was served at noon to guests including G C Fine and sons Hopkins A D Fine and daughter Liam Orris Fine and son Damewood Braddyville Arch Huddle and sons Conway Rose Young Sherman Texas Mary Taylor Stronghurst Ill. The afternoon was spent visiting and playing indoor games. Candles lit on the cake and best wishes offered for his health and happiness. The cake was cut and served. Eva Donaldson and children visited later with Miss Wilma playing violin selections for Mr. Fine.

Banquet Honors Team Members And Coaches Friday

Members and coaches of the basketball teams will be guests at a banquet at the Methodist church on Friday evening April 9. A program will be held and the public is invited. The menu includes escalloped chicken mashed potatoes creamed peas baked beans salad pickles rolls coffee ice cream and angel food cake.

W. W. Weller Dies in St Joseph Hospital

William Wallace Weller aged 47 of Taylor county died Friday April 2 at the Methodist hospital in St Joseph. He leaves a wife and three children and was buried at Gravity cemetery after funeral at the Sharpsburg Methodist church conducted by Rev. J A Walls. Weller was born near Creston Iowa on August 20.

Conway High School Banquet Showcases Dutch Theme

Home economics girls under Miss Dorothy Heaton hosted a March 30 banquet for the school board and faculty. Invitations featured Dutch shoes and decor included tulips and mini windmills on the gym balcony. Attendees included Supt. C. P. Thompson and numerous staff members.

Chalk Marks Glee Haynes Editor Operetta a Success

The high school operetta was a great success with a full house in Conway. The Dutch and American choruses impressed, aided by elaborate scenery and costumes. Ivan Canning stood out for his late-part performance, praised alongside director Miss Austene.

Rev. Kysar from Creston filled the pulpit and will preach again next Sunday. County baseball tourney dates set for April 22–24 in New Market. Junior high class planned for junior senior banquet. Paul McKay and W C McKay hosted Lester McKay at his home. Lowell Shum and mother Stella Shum attended Willie Weller’s funeral. Hazel Lorain Edwards returned to Clarinda after visiting. Mr and Mrs Thomas Williams and Mr and Mrs F A Barnes spent Sunday with Williams parents Mr and Mrs C E Williams north of Bedford. George Peach and family from near Bedford visited Ralph Batekin. Charlie Woodyard works for Art Scott this summer. Mr and Mrs David Barnes visited Roy Hurst in Maryville. F A Barnes and Mrs Barnes called at Allen Barnes northwest of Bedford. Several attended funeral of George McArthur at Pickering. he was stepfather of Emmitt Beal and had lived there the past years.
