A sophomore home room presented the one act play His First Shave in the auditorium on Wednesday March 27 featuring Louise Wintermute Lorraine Round Wardine Rimel Lyle Martin Warden Rimel Patsy Pete Mary Ellen Newland and Jane Paschal Mrs Taylor sponsors the group. The new Whirlwind gasoline powered lawnmower arrived last week and was tested by janitors Salen and Poore It mows a two foot swath and is self propelling A riding sulky is on order The mower will ease yard work at the school and replace the worn out previous model. Attendance improved on March 27 with only four absences two for morning classes The library adopted the Dewey Decimal system expanding shelf space and increasing circulation to about 54 books daily The library houses 1078 books with current newspapers magazines dictionaries encyclopedias and travel volumes Mrs Kathryn Kirketey oversees the library two students run the desk per study hall A large Farm Bureau drive reached its quota of 670 members and aims for 700 for 1946 thanks go to township captains merchants farmers and volunteers including Gerald Ruth Bertha and Martha

Contour Demonstrations Draw 220 Farmers in Taylor County

Two day soil contour demonstrations March 21 22 in Taylor County drew 220 attendees. Johnson McNeese Bush Hunter Cochran Sneed Pierce and Gold led the sessions with fertilizer guidance and grassed waterways. A plan to support 4 H clubs with a 25 dollar cup was approved.

Ladino Clover Trials Begin in Taylor County Pastures

Agronomists note white clover as a strong pasture crop in the Northeast and show promising results from trial plantings in this state. Ladino clover is being introduced into Taylor County by the Soil Conservation Nursery Ames Iowa with the Taylor County Soil Conservation District and Extension Service. Achievement Day A Success At Bedford Christian Church

Eighty nine people registered for Rural Womens Day on March 26 at the Bedford Christian Church. Eleven townships participated with booths on Re-upholstering Nutrition International Relations Health School and Library. Miss Louise Rosenfield spoke, Norma Park welcomed 4 H, and acts by Marshall and Washington townships entertained. Leaders and guests were served tea after a long day marred by mud roads.

Farm Bureau membership reaches 676 in Taylor County

Taylor County Farm Bureau reports 676 members this week, an increase of 121 since 1945 and six above the quota. President Roy Newkirk invites new and existing members to visit the Bedford office for service information and urges active township participation. Monthly notices announce local meeting times and places.

Lodge, Chapter Hold Meetings and Elections

Plumb Lodge held a special Monday meeting at the Masonic Hall with Second degree work performed. Highland Chapter No 523 O E S met Wednesday at the Masonic Hall and elected Halbert Hensley as Worthy Patron to fill the Miller vacancy. Mrs Flavia Cavner hosted the W S C S at her home Thursday. Mrs Floyd Farlow led devotions and the lesson from the Methodist Woman. Mrs Paul Jones attended and joined. The next meeting is Thursday afternoon April 25 at Mrs El’s home.
