Flynn Heads Blind Assn Unit Again
Edmund L Flynn was unanimously reelected president of the Bedford Branch Pennsylvania Association for the Blind at a quarterly board meeting on West Pitt Street. Officers reelected were Robe rt G. Shoemaker as vice president Harold C. Welch as vice president S James Tritt as secretary and John Manock as treasurer. Executive director Gerel Croft reported 626 client home visits totaling 20500 miles 22 eye examinations and caned chairs stools tea towels mats rugs and feather goods worth 3200 produced by blind workers. There are 353 visually handicapped on the service list. Five new directors joined including Stanley G. Stroup Henry Beamer Homer McKenzie Mrs Audrey Morris and Mrs Irene Chapman. The group plans to buy 209 West Pitt Street quarters.

The Pennsylvania Bar Association meets at Bedford Springs with over 600 attorneys, endorsing a call for a constitutional convention to revamp the state constitution. Supreme Court Justice Harold Buston addressed the gathering as a new report on committee structure was adopted. 200 Children Sign Up For Play Program
A record number of Bedford children and visitors have signed up for activities at the elementary school playground this year. Over 200 participants are taking part in a varied program organized by instructors, with group games daily, folk dancing, gymnastics, and an older children games instructor. Next Thursday at 3 36 p m the annual doll show will be held. Parents and relatives are urged to visit the playground at least once during the summer.

A tractor-trailer driven by Jay Stauffer of Lancaster damaged a guardrail on the Turnpike near Midway, with $420 in damage and three others injured as drivers including Lorenzo Devito and his son Anthony sustained hospital treatment after a rear collision. Robert Arnold of Bedford has been named to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U S Army Reserve engineering corps. The appointment took effect June 19. Arnold, son of Mr and Mrs Walter Arnold of Bedford, lives in Harrisburg and has 12 years of service including four years in World War II. He leads the 484th Engineering Battalion of York and serves as president of the Pennsylvania chapter of the Institute of Architects with the Harrisburg firm William Lynch Murray and Associates.

William A. Dawson will assume the first administrator post at Memorial Hospital of Bedford county in July. A renowned hospital accounting expert, he will lead a new, modern, low cost operation on a pay as you go basis. He comes from Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, where he served as administrator since 1947 and improved efficiency and community cooperation. The unit supplied 150 psi through the large hose and two 75 psi streams through the smaller hose.
