William Sweet Heckerman of Bedford born May 9 1925 dies in service. He graduated Bedford High School class of 1943 and earned the State Scholarship. He served with the 104th Infantry Timberwolf Division in Europe, trained at Camp Carson and Fordham, overseas from March 1944, and survived by his parents Dalton and Martha and a brother Dalton Jr. Funeral services arranged by Stanford Allen Pa Burial Services with burial at local rest.

The Bedford Chamber of Commerce runs two holiday window contests. Merchants vie for prizes of 15, 10, and 5 with judging Dec 13–18 and honorable mentions. Brady Stave Mill Ends Operations
The Brady Stave lumbering plant dismantled its Bedford operation this week. Machinery was loaded and removed, ending a war‑begun operation that employed about 20 men in the last three years. The stave mill produced barrel staves with an annual payroll around $60,000. The community will feel the loss.

Glen Mills Lad Is Recaptured
Donald Clair Winters, 16, of Hopewell, escaped Glen Mills Reform School on November 16 and was recaptured ten days later near Langdondale by state police. He had been sentenced in juvenile court on July 8 1947 and was turned over to parole officers for return.

Each faced 68.20 in fines and restitution after a midnight altercation with Jack Gardner, who was uninjured. Shives remained jailed after capture. the window is being replaced within a week.

Unit 113 of the American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 8 oclock Tuesday night December 7 at the Post Home with a program on rehabilitation. Mrs Ben Hunt Rehabilitation Chairman asks members to bring stamped Christmas cards for disabled veterans and canned goods and other packages for the needy. Two Bedford youths enlist in Army Air Force training
Two Bedford youths enlisted in the Army last week and entered basic training in San Antonio Texas.
