Miss Pearl Patton visits Lenox friends editor Hall of Conway and many others from Cres ton Creston and Maryville were in town Saturday. Attendees include J K DeHaven Conway merchant and Ivo Creston American solicitor with more locals visiting relatives and attending the county convention.
Infections rise from contaminated supplies and unclean water, with diarrhea as an early sign. The text promotes Foley's Colic Cure as a remedy and suggests disease spread is epidemic in nature.
City Clerk Sturtevant received a letter from O Wilbur Wiley holder of the electric light franchise stating he will arrive mid September to start establishing the plant. He will place orders for electric appliances this week and aims to complete before cold weather, though contract runs to February 15 next year.
Receipt of the program for the eighth annual Tournament at Clear Field from August 18 to 20 promises bicycle races baseball tennis and horse races with liberal purses. Sedgwick Post No 10 and the W BR CG plan a grand open post meeting Saturday August 14 inviting all veterans and families to attend with gongs music speeches and recitations in a pleasant program.
The 16th annual meeting of the Disciples of Christ in Taylor county will be held at O. L. Marley's grove three miles southwest of Bedford on August 21 and 22, 1897. Services are set for 2 30 p m Saturday and 10 30 a m and 2 30 p m Sunday with a repast served by the ladies Sunday. An able corps of preachers will be present. all are invited. Wn. Coss B. F. Rhodes.
The Star Chapter met at the Masonic hall Tuesday evening and elected officers for temporary organization. Mrs. A. G. Connell is W M, J. B. Dodge is W P, Mrs. J. P. Flick is secretary, with A. ., and Mrs. J. B. Dodge also listed. A dispensation will be sought to establish a permanent organization, aiming to become a strong auxiliary fraternal society in the city.
Robbie Switzer son of Peter Switzer of Clayton township suffered broken arms and injuries when a team dragged him into a threshing machine on Monday. He became entangled by tumbling rods and lines, was freed with care from the perilous situation, and Dr. J P Standley of Platteville attended him. The last report said he rested comfortably.
Yesterday L D Willman and John Flummer bought Burnett and Bradley stock of goods in Coin. They take possession next week and leave Bedford with two enterprising young businessmen. The Free Press commends their integrity and wishes them success with the new venture.
Fr. H. Denton of the John W. Wood farm in Jackson township threshed 10 acres of fall wheat last week yielding 320 bushels, an average of 42 bushels per acre. The wheat, of fine quality, provides a strong object lesson to county farmers.
The First Christian church ladies will run a New England Kitchen each Saturday in the building one door west of the Bedford house. Bread, beans, bacon, pie, and more will be served. In town, stop by for lunch prepared by the ladies.
An advertisement urges travelers to carry Joley's Oolic Cure after water changes. It claims it prevents and cures all bowel derangements caused by water changes and emphasizes its necessity alongside a pocket book.
Peach harvest at John Wyatt's place one mile west of Rosendale Andrew County Missouri will be ready for hauling or shipment around September 15th. Information furnished upon application. Unbanking the people for past patronage we will say come again. John Wyatt.
The ladies of the Presbyterian Church host an ice cream social Friday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Geo Herriott. Everyone is invited to attend.
The First Baptist church is extensively remodeling its parsonage. The foundation is raised about 18 inches to level the lot, an addition of 16 by 16 feet is added on the west, the kitchen moved to the north, and extensive interior improvements will give a modern appearance.
The heirs of the late David Wilson filed eighteen deeds to partition land in Polk and Ross townships. The division aims to avoid taxing the estate settlement in court. The group includes eight beneficiaries, among them the widow.
County Attorney Jackson and Geo Spence reached an agreement on dividing the Sutton estate. Mrs Sutton seeks divorce. $4000 total cash portion, $600 paid already, remaining by court decision. Sutton will not appear, divorce granted at court discretion.
The New England Kitchen expresses gratitude to the Pree Press and the public for Iberal patronage. It announces Saturday availability at the old stand near the Bedford house offering a lunch counter, ice cream, cake, and Good Things for eating. Orders may be left at Mrs. N. J. Turner’s or Mrs. Burneside’s store.
The Ladies Aid society of the First Christian church will continue the New England Kitchen on Saturdays and will also serve lunch. Menu includes pressed chicken veal roast bread salt rising bread pies cake Dutch cheese and ice cream. First door West of Bedford House.
The annual Old Settlers Reunion at Hawleyville will be held on August 19 with ample arrangements for attendees. Visitors are urged to come prepared with well filled baskets, though those unable to do so may have their needs supplied.
The M E church hosted an evening of high order entertainment led by F E Barrows in his first local piano appearance with frequent encores. Ruth Evans impressed the home audience and Clinton Dorn debuted with a strong vocal number. attendance fell short of expectations.
Prof and Mrs Whiteman of Denver visit Bedford and, at the request of the First Baptist BPU, will present a musical program with local talent and recitations. The event, commanding prestige, is set for Monday evening August 16.
