Fortune Hidden in Manger Amounted to Over Ten Thousand
A fortune of more than 10,000 dollars was found two weeks earlier by Jim Jefferies on the William Tame farm in Illinois. The stash, 6,000 in paper money and 5,803 in notes, was buried in an old barn manger and moved to the Hopkin bank. Tame, near death, dictated its hiding place to relatives who confirmed the contents. He died April 8, 1925, at about 77 years old, after a hard battle with gangrene and diabetes.
