Joe McManus Pro Baseball Pitcher Dies at 68
Joe McManus a former Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher who appeared in the 1913 opening game against Pittsburgh died at 12:30 p m after a six week illness from a stroke suffered at his Skelton home on November 13. He also played in the Southern Association with Chattanooga the South Atlantic League with Augusta and the Canadian League with Ottawa where a 16 game winning streak helped win a pennant. He once pitched a dramatic triple pickoff and was later a bookkeeper and weigh master for New River Co. Survivors include his widow four sons a brother and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be at Beckley Presbyterian Church Monday at 2 p m with burial in Sunset Memorial Park.

The 46 year old said he was abducted to East Berlin and returned December 12 with Danish journalist help.
