The multi million dollar Winding Gulf Coals Inc formed by a four company merger in October has a new president. J A Hunt of Woodlawn Avenue was elected by the board in Charleston succeeding W P Tams Jr who retired after 49 years in the industry. Haslam becomes executive vice president of operations to oversee production of five mines.

Fire injures man in Crab Orchard home blaze
A flash fire and explosion at L. E. Wright’s Crab Orchard home at 1 15 p m yesterday injured Clyde Fink a carpenter and caused about 1500 in damage. Fire Chief Bernard Martin said ignition from stove vapors and paste used for Formica cabinet tops sparked the blaze. Fink suffered severe hand burns while his clothing saved his body. He was treated by Dr. Ross Daniels and to be sent to a local hospital today. Beckley Fire Department found the fire extinguished on arrival. Mrs. G L Meadows, driver in a separate wreck nearby, had minor injuries.
