Silk production from ailante silkworms in France and farming tips
A condensed Foreign note reports trials funded by the French Emperor to cultivate a new open air silkworm on ailante trees yielding two cocoons per year with high survival and potential 100 percent returns. It compares favorably with mulberry silk, notes ailante as hardy, and mentions Guerin Meneville and early adopters in France. The piece also includes 1859 agricultural tips on wheat and potato cultivation, grafting methods, and farm practices, plus a humorous anecdote about a blue eyed girl.
