Milwaukee 1860 business review and New Year festival notes
The January 1 issue notes Milwaukee trade and commerce for 1860, praises the county paper, and hopes for a prosperous year. It covers a large festival at Concert Hall by the Sunday School of the First Presbyterian Church, estimating about a thousand attendees and generous benevolence toward public welfare.

Milwaukee Fire Tragedy Destroys Mills and Block
A fire at Nichols Britt & Co steam flour mill on Walkers Point consumed multiple buildings, with total losses around 50 000 dollars. Early Sunday another blaze in Cross block at Water Street and Huron Street destroyed property valued at about 500 000 dollars. Five people are missing and believed buried. The paper urges caution with fire and notes cold weather, busy streets, and a modest local music school opening by Professor Hubbell in Beaver Dam. Cushman’s Kansas Aid Concert last night raised 25 dollars plus clothing for the afflicted.
